In a game with multiple lead changes and a final fury of chances by both teams in the first overtime period, KUA’s Max Abendroth (Newport, NH) dodged his defender from behind the net, turned the corner and fired in the game winner to lift the Wildcats to a 13-12 OT victory against Williston-Northampton. Twice KUA built multiple goal leads only to see the home team claw their way back into the contest. After a brief warm-up, KUA stormed out to a two goal lead before Williston got on track and then tied and built a one goal advantage of their own by the end of the first quarter. Both teams were tied at the half, at the end of three, and again, at the final whistle. Junior attackman Ian Timpone (Concord, NH) netted four goals and assisted on another. Senior midfielder Chris Morse (Hanover, NH) scored two and dished out four assists. Junior attackman Eric Wollrath (Groton, MA) and Abendroth both finished the game with a goal and a two assists each. Senior midfielder Drew Simoneau, besides dominating the face-off spot (12/19), scored a hat trick and scooped up 7 ground balls.
In net, Tim McNair (Wilmette, IL) stopped seven shots in the first half and Santiago Morales (San Jeronimo, Mexico) saved 5 in the second half. Brad Kimball (Hamilton, MA), Andrew Kelley (Sudbury, MA), Alex Skinner (Ottawa, Canada), and Steve Swartz (Woodstock, VT) all contributed in the defensive end.
KUA (1-1) travels to Cushing on Saturday for a 4:30pm face-off.
