KUA Boys Basketball team put in a strong bid for a post season berth with their third straight Class AA victory in an exciting game versus St Andrews School today in Meriden, 55-51. In a game that saw a combination of strong team defense and both teams struggling at the offensive end in the first half as St Andrews to a slim lead, 27-24 into the locker room at the half. As they settled into their offensive rhythm in the second half neither team let up at the defensive end. St Andrews’ Syracuse-bound Mike Carter- Williams lead all scorers with 24 for the night, going 12-14 from the line. KUA spread their offensive production nicely among their starters; Ryan Daye with 16 and Jonny Bunyan with 12 each reached double figures. Brian Fabrizius hit a critical three late in the half to draw KUA to within three; Ryan Daye added a three with 1:30 to go to take the lead. Fabrizius hit one free throw and Devon Thomas calmly sank both of his with less than 10 seconds left to push the lead to four. Dan Brooks had a solid defensive performance as did Fabrizius who blocked 4 and gathered in 9 rebounds. KUA’s win, their sixth in their last seven games puts them at 15-11 for the season. Post season berth’s will be announced Sunday.
