Cats Prevail over the Powerful Penguins

Eileen Williams
Things did not look good for the home team early in the first half as the visiting Penguins (13-2) got their transition game going and built a 10 point lead before the Cats knew what hit them.  After a quick time-out, the Lady Wildcats settled down and went on a 5-0 run to head into the locker room down by just 5 (20-15).   KUA shined in the second half as the team used excellent ball movement and a renewed commitment to transition defense and rebounding to take command of the game.

Despite sitting for the majority of each half due to foul trouble, Autumn Kariuki finished with a game-high 13 points, all in the second half.  Kariuki and teammate Fiekah Fataar battled on the boards while point guard Gabby Diaz controlled the tempo of today’s match-up.  Diaz calmly broke the full court pressure applied by the visitors while contributing 10 points.  Bianca Brenz was the third Wildcat with double figures netting 11, including some big buckets in the final minutes to help seal the victory.

KUA improves to 12-4 will travel to Deerfield Academy for a make-up game on Monday.
