The KUA Lady Wildcats hosted Lakes Region Rival Proctor Academy (0-1) in their home opener and came away with a 43-29 victory. Pressure defense was key in holding the Hornets to just 9 first half points, 5 coming from the foul line. Newcomer Rafeegah Fataar '13 gave a strong effort on both ends of the floor playing stingy defense on Proctor’s talented post player and pulling down a team-high 9 rebounds. Also tough on the boards were Autumn Kariuki and Gabby Diaz with 6 apiece. Emily Kelly deserves recognition for her strong play in the post. Gabby Diaz and Bianca Brenz led the team in scoring with 17 (5-for 9 from downtown) and 10 points respectively. Diaz also chipped in with 6 assists and 3 steals.
KUA improves to 2-0 on the young season and will face a tough Tilton squad on the road on Saturday. Tip-off is 3p.m.
