Wildcats Duel in Saxtons River
KUA (1-0) started the season strong with a convincing 71-24 win over the Wildcats from Vermont Academy. Pressure defense forced 32 Vermont turnovers leading to several breakaway layups for the visitors. Balanced scoring in the first half was provided by Gabby Diaz (10 points), Bianca Brenz (9), Katey Spanos (6) and Autumn Kariuki (6) giving KUA a 31-16 advantage at the break. Diaz, a junior point guard, had the hot hand in the second half netting 20 additional points including 6 three-pointers (8 total from beyond the arc). Brenz ended the game with 17 points while Spanos chipped in with 8. Sophomore Rebecca DeTurk earned the Defensive Player of the Game title with relentless defense and a strong rebounding effort.
