Diaz Scores 1000th Point in Tough Loss to Groton
It was a blistering first half as KUA's Gabby Diaz '12 and Groton's Paige MacDonald combined for seven 3-pointers to notch the score at 30-30 at the break. Also hot for KUA was sophomore Autumn Kariuki who scored 8 of her 10 points in the first stanza to go along with a team-high 12 rebounds for another double-double on the season. Working hard on the offensive boards was Tori Agel with 5 while Ainsley MacDonald was a defensive stalwart with 5 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists.
The second half slowed down quite a bit for both squads as the score stood at 34-31 for over 5 minutes. Gabby Diaz hit for her 5th trifecta of the game (5-for-7 from beyond the arc) to finish with a team-high 19 points. Greydy Diaz needing 11 points in today's contest to reach 1,000 points in her KUA career, reached the milestone on a foul shot with under 1 minute to play. The bucket brought the 'Cats to within 6 but KUA was forced to foul and Groton hit both foul shots to secure the 8 point victory.
