KUA drops a close one to Holderness 63-56

Kimball Union’s Boys basketball team travelled to Holderness this evening to take on one of their Lakes Region rivals.  Both teams were slow getting off the blocks in the first half but Holderness went on a scoring spurt to build a ten point lead which was then cut to seven by KUA as the first half ended.  KUA’s David Hahn had twelve of his team high 18 points to keep KUA in contention in the first half.  Holderness started strongly in the second half, building their lead to as much as 16 points behind the strong offensive showing of Alex Francis (game high 26pts).  With eight minutes to go KUA started to chip away at Holderness’ lead and were able to get it down to three with less than two minutes on the clock.  A few missed opportunities and timely rebounding on Holderness’ part kept KUA at bay at the end with Holderness ending up on top 63-56.  KUA’s Din Moore had a strong showing offensively  with 14 points and Leslie Smith kicked in with 14 as well, going 8 for 11 from the free throw line. KUA returns to action tomorrow with Vermont Academy coming to Meriden for a 3pm game.
