KUA wins home opener 54-40

Kimball Union Boys basketball had their home opener today with Deerfield coming to town.  The Wildcats did not disappoint as they came away with a 54-40 victory.  Springfield VT’s Grant White lead  a well-balanced attack with 15 points for the game; five other players had at least 6 points with Carlos Toussaint second high with 8.  KUA took a 31-24 lead into the locker room at the half as both teams played hard and pushed the ball when they could.  KUA left last game’s shooting woes behind them as they shot  12 for 17 from the field in the first half.  Both teams continued to play with determination on the defensive end in the second half.  A nice 10-0 run at the start of the half for KUA  allowed them to stretch the lead  which they then built up to as much as  17 at one point before Deerfield closed it to 14 at the end.  Deerfield’s Kyle Kager led all scorers with 17 for the game.  KUA’s record now stands at 1-1 as they look to take on Lakes Region rival Proctor next Wednesday.
