Kimball Union traveled to Deerfield Academy today to face the third place team in Western New England Prep School Soccer. Deerfield game out very strong and Kimball Union on the heels for the first 15 minutes and in their best scoring chance from the run of play hit the post. After KUA settled in to the game they began to build and create problems for the Deerfield back three. Centerback Joe Haddad was able to clean up most advances and keeper John Rose handled all three shots that were on target. The second half began with Kimball Union carrying the play and putting more pressure on the Deerfield defense. Deerfield were looking for opportunities to counter but the back four of Hulleberg, Danforth, Lincoln and Mackenzie were equal to each challenge, and anything beyond the backs was cleaned up by keeper Nate Goss-Woliner. In the 58th minute Deerfield were awarded a penalty which was calmly finished by TJ Sullivan. Centerback Nick Lincoln was taken off injured and replaced by Luke Han. Kimball Union redoubled their efforts and in the 67th minute Andrew Jacobson scored a beautiful goal from Nathan McCann and Ike Okpoebo. Kimball Union continued to pressure Deerfield but could not find the winner. Matt Critchlow hit the post with six minutes to go, but that was as close as they would come. Luke Han on short notice on a cold day filled in tremendously in the center of the back and earns Man of the Match status for his effort. Kimball Union travels to Holderness on Saturday to renew a Lake Region League rivalry.
