Hot victory over Dublin for the Wildcats

The unseasonable heat of Wednesday’s game against Dublin School proved only to fire up the girls’ j.v. Squad.  From the start, the defense held Dublin to their own end of the field while the forwards and halfbacks kept the goalie busy with incessant shots.  Four minutes into the first half, fullback Maddie Fernsell ’11, was thrust up front to add additional pressure on the keeper.  It proved to be a successful coaching move, for she quickly received a sweet cross from right-wing Hazel Hori ’09 and drilled the ball home, earning KUA an early lead.   Intensity increased as the girls began to reap the rewards of their unrelenting attack.  Soon Freshman Layla Sherman ’11 followed the example of her classmate and chalked another one up for the ‘Cats.  Not to be outdone by the underclassmen, Alli Howe ‘08, followed up with what proved to be only the first goal of her spectacular hat trick.  KUA’s defense with the help of Heather Blackwood ’08, Emily Zea ’10, Margaret Zonay ’11, and the outstanding foot of Charlotte “the shot” Herbert ’11 kept Dublin to a total of one goal.  As the game sped to a triumphant close, Judith Athelstanlowe ’10 pounded one more into the net.  The final tally listed KUA at six goals and Dublin with only one.
