The Kimball Union Wildcats hosted undefeated Class A Worcester Academy tonight in their last regular-season home game. All six seniors shined in front of family and friends. Worcester came out red hot barely missing a shot in the first half and went into the locker room with a 16-point advantage, but the Wildcats came out strong in the second stanza and played the Hilltoppers evenly (30-32) the rest of the way. If KUA had a few less turnovers (give credit to the defense of A), the outcome could have been much different.
For the second straight game, KUA shot above 75% as a team from the foul line. Maddy Milowsky nailed 3 free throws in the closing minutes, Laura Calder shot a perfect 2-for-2 and Cindy Roseen shot an improved 3-for-5. Roseen ended the evening with a game-high 21 points while collecting numerous rebounds. Calder contributed 10 points and was also a workhorse on the boards. Katie Wardrop exuded confidence on the floor and scored a big bucket to pull the Cats to within 8 points midway through the second half. Reggie Hammond and Laura Berndt dished out some beautiful assists while Emily Hoar worked hard on the defensive end keeping our much bigger opponents off the boards. The final score of 52-70 is not an accurate indication of just how close this contest was. Congratulations to the seniors and the whole team on a job well done!
