2026-2027 Associate Director of College Advising
Kimball Union Academy (KUA) seeks an experienced, student-centered, and innovative high school Associate Director of College Advising to join our community as a full-time faculty member who will actively support and fulfill KUA’s mission “to create a deep sense of belonging for every member of our community. ABOUT THE POSITION
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Advise students individually on the college search and application process, including self-exploration, academic planning, goal-setting, self-advocacy, and application review.
- Write comprehensive and creative advisor letters of recommendation for members of the senior class.
- Assist the Director of College Advising in educating parents, students, faculty, administrators, and trustees regarding all aspects of the college application process, including on the use of SCOIR, web-based advising software.
- Direct specific programs and projects as identified by the Director of College Advising.
- Consult regularly with college admissions representatives on current practices and admissions trends and to advocate on behalf of student applicants through phone conversations, email interactions, attendance at conferences, participation in visitation programs, and hosting college admissions representatives on campus.
- Pursue opportunities for professional growth and school exposure through participation in professional organizations such as the Association of College Counselors in Independent Schools (ACCIS), the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), the New England Association for College Admission Counseling (NEACAC), The College Board, the ACT, SCOIR, and the like.
- Coach sports and/or lead activities.
- Advise a small cohort of students.
- Serve as a dorm parent in our residential program and work within a team to supervise and facilitate weekend activities on occasional weekends.
- Participate in committee work as assigned by school leadership.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- 8-10 years of experience in high school college advising or college admissions strongly preferred. Experience in using SCOIR helpful.
- Experience in Boarding Schools preferred.
- Experience supporting student athletes pursuing collegiate athletics, including familiarity with the NCAA Eligibility Center and NCAA academic eligibility standards.
- Experience in a range of sports – coaching experience preferred.
- Collaborative approach, willing to work closely with colleagues both in and outside of the department.
- Flexible, resilient, and creative working within a fast-paced environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills and a track record for building strong relationships with both students and colleagues.
- Strong analytical skills and an ability to learn new systems quickly.
- Student-centered with a commitment to investing in the lives of young people.
Hours of Work: The position is year-round and full-time position. The typical expectation is a 40-hour work week, with the understanding that when school is in session, employees work Saturdays and occasional weekends. Other duties and responsibilities in coaching and in the dormitories may be added on top of this workload. Standard school vacations are offered.
