Custodial Housekeeper, Full or Part-Time
Kimball Union Academy seeks a qualified individual to carry out daily housekeeping and custodial assignments as directed by the F&O Office Manager. The Custodial Housekeeper is responsible for various cleaning responsibilities following established guidelines and procedures to help maintain an optimal standard of cleanliness and appearance for various KUA buildings and facilities.
ABOUT THE POSITION
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Performing basic cleaning tasks and waste removal in various areas of KUA buildings and facilities, such as lobbies, hallways, stairways, classrooms, restrooms, storage areas, entrances, dorm rooms, lounges, kitchens, office areas, event spaces, and guest house as assigned.
- Utilizing proper cleaning chemicals and methods to ensure clean surfaces throughout various KUA buildings, rooms, and facilities as assigned.
- Stocking and organizing required cleaning supplies in appropriate areas on campus.
- Performing some basic maintenance activities (such as changing light bulbs, setting clocks, adjusting blinds, cleaning fleet vehicles, etc....) and seasonal maintenance activities, including cleaning snow, ice or debris from sidewalks, building entrances, and vehicles.
- Performing basic maintenance to housekeeping equipment and tools as required.
- Reporting needs for repairs found in assigned areas during daily work rounds via work order management system.
- Performing cleaning duties and assisting with set-ups for scheduled events.
- Assisting with laundry services as needed for dorms, guest house, summer camps, and special events.
- Performing other duties as assigned by manager based on training and capability.
- Adhering to expectations outlined in the job description and employee handbook.
- Working in a safe manner at all times, complying with appropriate safety requirements as directed and for the task assigned.
- Promoting the core values of the F&O department by demonstrating accountability, integrity, discipline, and trust in their work and interactions with the campus community.
QUALIFICATIONS
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required.
- The applicant must possess a valid driver’s license.
- The applicant must be able to pass a required background check.
- Must be able to walk up and down multiple flights of stairs.
- Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle and feel objects, tools and controls; frequently required to reach with hands and arms and to squat, stoop, kneel, reach above the head, reach forward and sit; physical strength needed to lift and carry at least 50 pounds;
- Ability to adhere to established safety procedures, follow school policies, and support the mission of a high quality Boarding School environment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- The applicant must have the flexibility to work independently and as part of a team with a high energy level as well as a strong desire to help others in a wide variety of circumstances. The job requires someone with excellent communication skills and the ability to adapt to changing priorities and work with a diverse group of individuals.
- Good knowledge of materials, chemicals, methods and equipment used to clean and maintain facilities surfaces and fixtures inside and outside of buildings.
- Make independent decisions based on established policies and procedures.
- Strong time management skills.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
- Experience in housekeeping and demonstrated understanding of custodial services for school environments.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will wear a uniform that complies with the department dress code. The employee may occasionally be exposed to high, precarious places, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock. Because of these potential exposures, the employee is required to attend all related safety training sessions and follow/comply with all appropriate safety guidelines.
WORK SHIFT
The work shift for this position is intended to be full-time and will be based on the assignment and needs of KUA. The typical workday is an eight-hour shift, Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and weekends for special events. Consideration of part-time/flexible schedule may be negotiated on a case by case basis and outlined specifically in the hire letter. Work schedule may vary depending on event schedules throughout the school year. CLASSIFICATION
