Maintenance Tech II - Electrical Lead
Kimball Union Academy (KUA) seeks a qualified individual to fill the position of Maintenance Technician II/Electrical Lead in Facilities & Operations to perform a variety of skilled work and oversight of the technical maintenance and repair of campus building electrical systems and associated equipment to ensure safe, effective operation and maintenance of campus facilities and buildings. This employee serves as the technical lead for the maintenance team, providing oversight and instruction as needed to semi-skilled Maintenance Technicians in the completion of various work tasks. This position requires demonstrated code knowledge, installation and maintenance of building electrical systems, facilities infrastructure, and related equipment. This position directly reports to the Director of Facilities & Operations and collaborates daily with the Facilities Manager to execute priority needs of the department.
ABOUT THE POSITION
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Installation, alteration, maintenance, and repair of high voltage and low voltage electrical wiring systems, distribution panels, equipment, lighting systems, CCTV, life safety systems, switches, outlets, exhaust fans, security systems, etc.
- Installation and repair of specialized electrical equipment such as HVAC equipment, refrigeration units, dishwashers, water heaters, kitchen appliances, and other similar equipment, in cooperation with other skilled trades workers.
- Installation and maintenance of electrical motors and generators, brushes, motors, and does other electrical and limited mechanical work in repairing and replacing parts.
- Estimating time and materials required to complete work orders and maintenance project assignments.
- Overseeing the work of assigned helpers and contracted vendors to ensure work is completed and meets code compliance.
- Performing facility inspections, safety checks, and preventive maintenance (PM) checks to execute a preventive maintenance program.
- Participating in a rotation with other skilled employees to cover on-call shifts and maintain 24/7 emergency coverage of all school facilities, responding to emergency calls to maintain safe conditions and continuity of operations on campus.
- Performing skilled and semi-skilled maintenance tasks that may include, but are not limited to:
- Electrical systems, high voltage and low voltage.
- Mechanical/Plumbing/Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC)
- Ice rink management and operation
- Appliances and Furniture
- Working independently in the absence of supervision as directed.
- Attend meetings and trainings as required, leading trainings when appropriate.
- Performing other duties as assigned based on training, capability, and needs of the department.
- Adhering to expectations outlined in job description and employee handbook.
- Working in a safe manner at all times, complying with appropriate safety requirements as directed and for the task assigned.
- Promoting the core values of the F&O department by demonstrating accountability, integrity, discipline, and trust in their work and interactions with the campus community.
QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Ability to work independently with a high energy level as well as a strong desire to help others. The job requires someone with excellent communication skills and the ability to adapt to always changing priorities.
- Proficiency in standard tools and practices in the electrical trade as well as basic knowledge of the other various trades that provide support and collaboration in executing assigned tasks.
- Demonstrated knowledge of NFPA 70 National Electrical Code, NFPA Life Safey Code 101, occupational hazards and safety precaution requirements of the building and electrical trades.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions and documentation of work assignment results.
- The applicant must have an aptitude in computer systems with ability using Microsoft Word/Excel and familiarity with computerized maintenance management software (CMMS).
- The applicant must possess a valid driver’s license.
- The applicant must be able to pass a required background check.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS
- 5 years of relevant experience in facilities maintenance, construction, or engineering fields, and/or the operation and maintenance of the mechanical and electrical equipment systems.
- 5 years experience of on-the-job training in the electrician trade OR Completion of a formal four-year apprenticeship in the electrician trade.
- Current New Hampshire State license of sufficient level to meet all current code requirements.
- Associate’s degree and/or trade licensure from a recognized technical school with a major in mechanical or electrical technology or maintenance, High School diploma or GED certificate
- 2 years supervisory experience in the operation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment systems
The above requirements may be waived based on other applicable skills, certifications, or proficiencies.

The employee will adhere to the department dress code including assigned uniforms and proper personal protective equipment.
WORK SHIFT
The work shift for this position is full-time and will be based on the assignment and needs of the Academy. The workday is an eight-hour shift, Monday through Friday, with occasional evening and weekends for special events. The incumbent will perform on call rotation as part of normal duties.
