  • Daycare/Preschool Substitute Teachers

    Meriden Preschool and Daycare at Kimball Union Academy is currently seeking substitute child caregivers that are compassionate, reliable, and experienced. In this role, you will see to the children’s basic needs, creating a safe, compassionate “home-away-from home” for our little ones.
     
    This is a substitute call-in position. To succeed in this position, you should be patient, enthusiastic and flexible and able to move from the preschool room to the toddler room, if needed.

  • Director of Parent Giving

    Kimball Union Academy is accepting applications for the position of Director of Parent Giving.  As an integral member of the Advancement team, this position will assist in identifying and stewarding families of Kimball Union and act as the primary point of contact and liaison for the Parents’ Association Council.  Additional responsibilities include the coordination of Kimball Union Academy’s giving and engagement programs with parents, grandparents, parents of alumni, and friends and plan and oversee events that pertain to various parent and grandparent constituencies.  The ideal candidate will have 3 to 5 years of advancement experience and must be able to manage multiple projects and offer exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.  Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and the use of databases are required, preferably Raiser’s Edge and ResearchPoint.

  • English Teacher

    Kimball Union Academy (KUA) seeks an experienced and innovative English teacher to become a full-time member of the KUA community. 

    ABOUT THE POSITION 
    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 
    •    Plan and teach five sections of English for two grade levels  
    •    Teach English for 9th – 12th grades, possibly including Humanities or AP English
    •    Coach sports and/or lead activities, varsity girls sports a plus
    •    Advise a small cohort of students
    •    Serve as a dorm parent in our residential program and work within a team to supervise and facilitate weekend activities on occasional weekends 
    •    Pursue continuous growth and development in understanding and implementation of diverse and effective instructional practices 
    •    Contribute knowledge, expertise, and passion to the on-going collaborative effort to innovate and improve KUA’s curriculum 
    •    Participate in committee work as assigned by school leadership 

    QUALIFICATIONS 
     
    •    A bachelor’s degree in English, education, or a closely related field; a graduate degree in English or education is strongly preferred 
    •    3-5 years (or more) of teaching high school English
    •    Current pedagogical practices which may include experience with Universal Design for Learning, backwards planning (Understanding by Design), and project-based learning 
    •    Collaborative approach, willing to work closely with colleagues both in and outside of the department

  • Learning Center Specialist

    Kimball Union Academy (KUA) seeks a Learning Specialist to provide comprehensive learning and support services to students with mild to moderate learning disabilities in a 1:1 setting. The successful candidate will have knowledge of the academic, emotional and brain-based components of learning in adolescence with the ability to utilize assistive technologies and interventions to support student growth. The candidate will also be able to support students with reading, writing, and math content instruction. 

    ABOUT THE POSITION 

    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 
    •    TUTOR 10-12 students two to three times per week both during the class-day and afternoon activities
    •    Write reports of student progress for parents, teachers and advisors
    •    Pursue growth in understanding and implementation of the most current educational practices
    •    Contribute knowledge, expertise, and passion to the on-going collaborative effort to innovate and improve KUA’s curriculum 
    •    Advise a small cohort of students, acting as a conduit for parents and advising in a variety of academic and personal matters
    •    Serve as a dorm parent in our residential program and work within a team to supervise and facilitate weekend activities on occasional weekends
    •    Participate in committee work as assigned by school leadership 

    QUALIFICATIONS 
    •    A graduate degree in Special Education or School Psychology
    •    Three years of experience as a Learning Specialist at the high school level
    •    Current pedagogical practices which may include experience with Universal Design for Learning, backwards planning (Understanding by Design), and project-based learning 
    •    Collaborative approach, willing to work closely with colleagues both in and outside of the department 
    •    Facility with Mac OS, SMARTboard technologies, Microsoft365, Google apps, and other music education-enhancing products is preferred

    We are seeking an experienced and innovative mathematics teacher to become a full-time member of the KUA community, teaching and also participating actively in athletics or activities and residential life. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
    • Plan and teach five sections of mathematics across two or three different courses over the course of the year
    • Teach mathematics from the Algebra level through AP Calculus
    • Math beyond AP BC Calculus a plus
    • Pursue continuous growth and development in understanding and implementation of diverse and effective instructional practices
    • Contribute knowledge, expertise, and passion to the on-going collaborative effort to innovate and improve KUA’s curriculum

  • Music Teacher and Choral Director

    Kimball Union Academy (KUA) seeks an experienced and innovative vocal music teacher and musical director to become a full-time member of the KUA community. 
    ABOUT THE POSITION 
    Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 
    •    Teach vocal music, direct large choir, vocal ensembles, and individual vocal students
    •    Act as musical director for our annual musical production
    •    Teach music history
    •    Teach acting, musical performance and other related classes
    •    Direct the Fall Play  
    •    Advise a small cohort of students
    •    Serve as a dorm parent in our residential program and work within a team to supervise and facilitate weekend activities on occasional weekends
    •    Pursue continuous growth and development in understanding and implementation of diverse and effective instructional practices

    •    Multi-instrumentalist who can teach piano and operate the audio recording studio is preferred
    •    Current pedagogical practices which may include experience with Universal Design for Learning, backwards planning (Understanding by Design), and project-based learning

    ABOUT THE POSITION

    •    Plan and teach five sections of physics across two or three different courses over the course of the year 
    •    Teach 9th Grade Conceptual Physics through AP Physics C
    •    Prepare students for success on the AP exam
    •    Ability to also teach engineering a plus
    •    Coach sports and/or lead activities 
    •    Advise a small cohort of students
    •    Serve as a dorm parent in our residential program and work within a team to supervise and facilitate weekend activities on occasional weekends
