Wildcats Take Bulls in First of Four

Darrell Beaupre
Boys JV2  (THE DEUCE) soccer met today on Brewster field for the first of four matches against the Holderness Bulls.  The Wildcats, with the assistance of star returning forward PJ Tessier, asserted a dominance of the field that remained solid for nearly all eighty minutes of play.  So solid was KUA’s defense that starting goalie, Peter Prendergast, did not touch the ball once in the first half.  During the second half, Brian Kim was fortunate to touch it once.
During the first half, the Cheng brothers dominated the play.  Marco Cheng assisted Rob Meffert twice for the first two goals, while Martin Cheng set up PJ for the third.  Robert Lee then crossed a sweet pass to Tian Li for goal number four.   Rob Meffert’s long shot and deflection helped Charley Parry to score.  Then Charley set Martin Cheng up for a finesse goal.  Martin didn’t relent and scored again off a deflected ball from the keeper.  Finally with only a few minutes left in the half, Bill Peng’s shot on the goalie was deflected and Marco Cheng sent it into the back of the net.
In the second half, neophyte strikers (but veteran fullbacks) Jon Munro, Andrew Shields, and Dylan Chauvin took the field.  Jon Munro sent a lofty pass from the far corner to Dylan whose deflected ball was driven in from Gabriel Engfer.  Not long after Gab placed another ball by the keeper on a high cross from Jon.  The final goal for KUA was driven in by Henri Schmitz on a blast from outside the eighteen.
In this match KUA got to see solid passing, strong effort from all players in positions where they were unfamiliar, and positive sportsmanship.  Both teams played hard and put forth a solid effort.
The Deuce will match off against Proctor Academy, away, on Wednesday October 5th  at 2:00
