Boy's JV Hockey Shuts Out Exeter

Corson Fidler
This was the most exciting game of the season to date as KUA looked for revenge against Exeter at home.  KUA moved the puck extremely well today, had the better end of the scoring opportunities, remained aggressive, and played their best hockey of the season.

Things started off fast in the 1st as both teams looked to set the tone for the game.  KUA did a great job of getting the puck in deep and forcing Exeter to try and break it out of their own end.  The KUA forecheck was phenomenal as the Wildcats kept Exeter in their own zone for minutes at a time.  Despite many KUA scoring chances in the 1st, they could not find the net as Exeter was constantly looking to spring a breakaway by hanging one man behind the KUA defense in the neutral zone all afternoon.  The 1st period ended with a deadlock still at 0-0.  KUA came right back out int the 2nd period working hard to keep Exeter in their own zone.  Just a minute into the 2nd period, Riley Alderman buried a low, hard slapshot from the point with the assist coming from captain Cheese Maggiore.  KUA kicked things into another gear as the momentum swung their way with the goal, and were rewarded for their efforts again just minutes later as Ian Timpone found twine with the assist coming from Matt Donovan to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead.  KUA came back out in the second half of the game looking to re-establish their presence by working hard and playing fast, simple hockey.  They did so successfully, and would go on further their lead in the 3rd period courtesy of a top shelf shot from Ian Timpone with the assist coming from captain Sam Herrmann.  KUA continued to work hard throughout the 3rd, never letting up for a moment with the pressure, and Josh Huett found the back of the net with the assist coming from Matt Fiacco to give KUA a 4-0 lead, which was all the Wildcats would need to send Exeter on their long bus ride home.

Both teams played hard today in a great hockey game.  The KUA defensemen did an excellent job of thwarting the ever dangerous Exeter counter-attack game while KUA did a tremendous job of playing in Exeter's end of the ice the majority of the game.  It was a day of firsts today at Akerstorm Arena as Matt Donovan tallied for his first assist of the season, Riley Alderman for his first goal, CJ Frates for his first career shutout, and KUA Boy's JV Hockey's first win against Exeter this season.  KUA will close out the season next week with away games against Cardigan Mountain and Vermont Academy.
