Whitney Frates '08 on Winning Junior Olympic Team

KUA Junior Whitney Frates spent a good deal of her summer competing on a national level through the USA Field Hockey Futures program, and ultimately at the AAU Junior Olympics.

Frates, a junior at KUA, was in Virginia several times this summer competing on a national level. She attended the Futures National Championship, which was held at USA Field Hockey's national training center in Virginia Beach in late July. She did so well there that she was then invited to compete in the elite AAU Junior Olympic Field Hockey championships the first week of August, where her Team Pink won the national title. Whitney scored the the game-winning goal in both the semifinals and finals.

KUA coach Sue Halliday suggested that Whitney participate in the Futures program.

“We encouraged her to try out,” Halliday said from northern New York, where she was wrapping up a vacation last week. “If you want to play in college, you have to be in the Futures program. That's one of the best ways to be seen.”

Look for Whitney back with the Wildcats for another great season this Fall.
