Evan Russell '12 Wins FCWT Newport National Golf Tournament

A beautiful day in New England, with barely a breeze and superb course conditions, was the backdrop for the final round of the FCWT Newport National Junior Golf Tournament. As the last group teed off in the Boys 16-18 division, last season’s defending champion, Evan Russell of VT (Kimball Union Academy 2012) was tied with last season’s 13-15 Champion, Danny Guise of CT (2013). Russell fell back first when he made bogey on the 2nd and 3rd hole, putting Guise up by two strokes. Guise made his own bogey on # 4 and then on # 6 putting them back to tied. Both made birdie on #9, before heading to the back nine. Number 10 proved to be a challenge for Russell who made bogey to Guise‘s par. Guise would remain ahead by one until the 13th hole where Russell got one back with a birdie. On 15 Guise gave one back to the course with a bogey, then on the very next hole, Russell made his third birdie of the day on the par 3 16th to go up by two shots. There he remained as they finished 17 and 18 each with par-par. A great end to the tournament for two young men who personify the New England spirit. Well done, gentlemen. Finishing in 3rd place was Patrick Frodigh of Westwood, MA (2013). Frodigh, who won at Notre Dame, led this division in birdies for the weekend with 9 while earning his second Top 3 finish in as many starts.

SIVERAND SIGNS WITH NORTH CAROLINA A&T

Kimball Union Academy post-graduate Waylan Siverand has signed a national letter of intent to attend North Carolina A&T.
Siverand, a 6-7 forward, started all 26 games for the Wildcats this year.
“We are extremely proud of Waylan,” said KUA Head Coach Mike Olson. “He worked very hard, both on the court and in the classroom, to accomplish his goal of receiving a Division I scholarship. This is a tribute to his perseverance and work ethic.”
Siverand appreciated and benefited from the academic challenges put forward by the KUA faculty. He said he was “thrilled to attend A&T and it would not have happened without the support of my teachers, in particular Ms. Dilorio, Ms. Howe, Mr. Lord, and Mr. Porrazzo. I am thankful for their confidence in me.”
North Carolina A&T is located in Greensboro, North Carolina and is a member of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. A&T has a strong basketball tradition, winning 19 conference tournament titles since 1972.
Siverand joins Brian Fabrizius (Princeton), Ryan Daye (Wingate), and Danny Brooks (St. Joseph’s College of Maine) as Wildcats who are moving on to play collegiately. KUA finished 15-11 in NEPSAC Class AA this year.

Mike Doherty Named Director of Athletics

Kimball Union Head of School Michael J. Schafer has announced that Michael Doherty has been appointed Director of Athletics. Mike has served as Associate Director of Admissions at KUA since 2009.
1984 graduate of Binghamton University, Mike came to KUA from the Oliverian School in Pike, NH where he served as Director of Admissions for three years. Head men’s soccer coach for 20 years at Colgate University, he was named the Lanzera National Coach of the Year in 1992, the Patriot League Coach of the Year for 1992 and 1997, and NSCAA Regional Coach of the Year, also in 1992 and 1997. He has won two Howard Hartman Awards as Colgate’s Coach of the Year and served as an instructor in Colgate’s Physical Education Department, teaching racquetball, tennis, and weight training. He has been involved with various youth sports boards, coaching and volunteer positions, and was the managing director of the Lightning Soccer Club from 2007 to 2009.
“Anyone who knows Mike and everyone who has worked with him respects, appreciates, and admires the way he works with students, aspiring athletes, colleagues, and parents,” said Head of School Mike Schafer. “Mike’s perspective on how meaningful athletic competition, recreation, and physical fitness reveals and develops qualities in young people that transcend sports and extend to the classroom, relationships, and to a foundation for success in life fits into our vision and mission for the role athletics play in our curriculum.
Mike takes on the role of Director of Athletics on July 1, 2011. He lives in Hanover, NH, with his wife Judy and children Pat, Shannon '11, and Jack.
Schafer also expressed his appreciation to Gino Riffle who is currently serving as Interim Director of Athletics. Riffle will resume his role as Assistant Director of Athletics when Doherty takes the helm in July.

KUA's Boys Varsity Hockey Team will head to the Elite 8 tournament to face off against Kent School at Loomis Chaffee at 4:15 pm on Wednesday. KUA is the only small school to make the tournament. KUA is the #6 seed and Kent is #3.

Gabby Diaz '12 and Autumn Kariuki '12 Named to Basketball All-Star Team

Congratulations to Autumn Kariuki '12 and Gabby Diaz '12 who have both been named to the New England Prep School Basketball All-Star team. The girls, two of the top 48 players in all of Classes C, D & E, will represent Kimball Union on Sunday, March 6th at Super Sunday which is held at Loomis Chaffee School in Windsor, CT.

Brian Fabrizius '11 Commits to Princeton

Kimball Union Academy post-graduate Brian Fabrizius will attend Princeton University and play basketball for the Tigers, according to KUA Head Coach Mike Olson.
Fabrizius and Princeton coach Sydney Johnson had courted each other throughout the year but waited patiently as the admissions process played itself out. When Brian received his call congratulating him into the Class of 2015---he was ready to commit.
Fabrizius says he owes the faculty at KUA for allowing this to happen, “I had to improve academically during my post graduate year. My teachers here are outstanding and they have pushed me to become a better student. Being admitted to Princeton, and playing for Coach Johnson, would not have happened if not for the support of the faculty and staff at Kimball Union.”
Fabrizius attended Hersey High School, Arlington Heights, Illinois. He missed most of his senior season with an injury but had been spotted by Princeton, and a host of other Division I schools, while playing AAU basketball for Full Package Athletics under Steve Pratt.
Fabrizius is a 6-11 forward who projects nicely into the Princeton high post offense. He is currently averaging 10 points and 7 rebounds a game in the Wildcat’s balanced attack.
“This is a great testament to Brian’s character and work ethic, said Olson. He had a goal and he worked hard in the classroom and on the court to achieve it. He will be an asset to Princeton on and off the court. He is only now scratching the surface of his potential---he is an ascending student-athlete.”

Wildcats Win Nichols-Belmont Hill Tournament

The Kimball Union Boys Varsity Hockey Team took home the Belmont Hill-Nichols School Tournament Title Thursday night taking down Belmont Hill 4-1. The Wildcats began the tournament by beating Ridley College 4-1 and Millbrook School 3-0. In the last game of the round robin KUA couldn't match Belmont Hill's work ethic and dropped a tough one 4-1. KUA still finished first in their bracket and moved on to the semi final game against Hebron Academy. Looking to prove themselves after a disappointing effort the previous night the Wildcats came out flying in the first and had many opportunities but could not cash and headed into the second period tied 0-0. The second period saw one goal as Senior Gabriel Veilleux potted home a rebound off Junior Dennis Kravchenko's shot, Senior Pat Doherty was credited with the second assist. KUA opened the game up in the third as Doherty snapped home a nice shot on the power play. Senior Peter LaFosse snapped home the third then he set up Kravchenko for a one timer for the fourth to close out the scoring. Senior Steve Mastalerz was solid in net as usual. The win allowed KUA a path to the final and a rematch with Belmont Hill who beat Nichols School 3-2 in the other semi final game.
KUA was ready to play in this one and the game was a fast paced and physical affair. The Wildcats were much better defensively and were able to keep Belmont Hill's speedy forwards in check. The first period ended scoreless for both teams. Early in the second KUA went on the power play. LaFosse moved the puck to Kravchenko who found Senior Ryan Cole, Cole snapped a high shot over the shoulder of the Belmont Hill goalie for the 1-0 lead, which would hold for the duration of the period. Early in the third Belmont Hill tied the score on a power play goal of their own when Jim Vesey buried a shot in the slot all alone. KUA responded when LaFosse entered the zone with speed and fired a shot that found its way into the net, assists went to Kravchenko and Veilleux. Five minutes later the Wildcats would increase their lead when Cole finished off a great cycling play with linemates Sophomore Casey Miller and Sophomore Jonathan Charbonneau. Late in the third on the power play Kravchenko found Doherty on the point who fired a low slap shot that sealed the victory. Senior Goalie Steve Mastalerz made 22 saves on 23 shots to finish a great run in this tournament. The victory brings home the first KUA Hockey holiday tournament title in over 15 years.

Lady Wildcats Win Berwick Holiday Hoops Tournament

KUA faced off with Class B Middlesex in the championship round of the Berwick Holiday Hoops tournament on Saturday in South Berwick, ME. Both teams started slowly struggling from the floor. KUA’s stingy defense held Middlesex at bay for much of the game while eventually creating some fast break points of their own. Autumn Kariuki netted 8 of her 10 points in the first stanza while tournament MVP, Gabby Diaz, contributed 11 first half points en route to a game-high 18. Middlesex’s Rufflolo hit a three just before the break to bring the halftime score to 34-15 in favor of Kimball Union.
The Wildcats received balanced scoring and strong defensive efforts from all 9 healthy players on the roster. Freshman Kaitie Sanders, earning her first start, shot an impressive 7-for 9 from the free throw line and finished with 9 points and several steals. Katey Spanos (Newport, NH), fresh off a back injury played her best game of the season chipping in a season-high 11 points including a 5-for-7 foul shooting performance. Sophomores Rafeegah Fataar and Gretchen Schissel chipped with 9 and 8 points respectively. Rebecca DeTurk played a strong defensive game once again, leading the team in steals, while Emily Kelly, new to the sport of basketball, continues to make rapid improvement.
Junior tri-captain Autumn Kariuki was named to the All-Tournament team for her all-around strong effort on both ends of the court. She notched back-to-back double-doubles (rebounds and points) in the two-day tournament.
Diaz, in addition to being named Most Valuable Player, also won the tournament’s 3-Point shooting contest.
The Cats, now 4-1, will return to action on January 8th when they host Vermont Academy for a Lakes Region League match-up.

Martin Ouellette '10 Set Career Record

Martin Ouellette '10, freshman goalie at University of Maine, made a career high 31 saves as he shut out the Providence Friars on Saturday night en route to his first career win. The Black Bears broke the game open with three goals in the first 10 minute of the third period. Maine moves to 7-3-4 on the season and 5-2-2 in Hockey East play, while Providence falls to 6-6-4 overall and 3-4-4 in conference play.

They are seeded second and will take on Middlesex School in the quarter-finals on Pope Field at Kimball Union on Wednesday, November 17 at 3:30 PM.

KUA Runners Shine at NEPSAC Championships

Four Wildcats made the three and a half hour trek to Hyde School in Bath, ME on Saturday to race in the New England Divisional Championship race. All four runners had successful outings. In the Varsity Boys’ race, Aaron Picard, intent on improving on last year’s 21st place and shooting for the top 10 this year, came in 4th (out of 104) with a time of 17:56! Freshman Henry Vansant, in his first ever New England appearance, placed 20th. The Varsity Girls’ race began quite dramatically. A girl from another team fell at the start resulting in the race official calling back the entire field. Unfortunately, the speedy KUA runners, Emma Porrazzo and Caitlin Porrazzo, were already out of earshot of the siren and continued at full-out race pace for close to a half mile before officials could catch up with the lead pack on the course to stop them and have them return to the start. This did not unsettle the young Wildcats, and their second start was as solid as their first. Emma ultimately finished 3rd place (out of 106) with a time of 21:09. Caitlin, coming back from a hip injury sustained a month ago, closed last week’s gap significantly and gutted out a 5th place finish with a time of 21:47.
Congratulations to all four runners this weekend and good luck to Aaron, Emma, and Caitlin who have been named to the New England All-Star Team and who will compete in next Saturday’s NEPSTA All-Star Meet in Marlborough, MA.

UNH Field Hockey Players Whitney Frates '08 and Kyle Lyons '08 Honored by America East

Former KUA Wildcat Field Hockey standouts Whitney Frates '08 and Kyle Lyons '08 were unanimous selections to the America East 1st Team All Stars.
Frates, a junior forward, is a repeat selection from the 2009 First Team. She started all 19 regular-season games and recorded 26 points on 10 goals and six assists to tie for the team lead in goals and rank second in points. Frates recorded a team-best .303 shooting percentage and also tied for the team lead in game-winning goals. With those statistics, she ranked seventh in goals per game and eighth in points per game. Frates tallied a point in 10 of 19 games and recorded a season-high five points (two goals, one assist) at Maine. During a seven-game stretch spanning Sept. 25 to Oct. 17, she tallied seven goals and three assists for 17 points. Frates' other 2010 accolades included America East Player of the Week and All-Wildcat Invitational Team.
Lyons, a junior back, was an instrumental part of the defensive unit, including the penalty corner unit, and also had a breakout year offensively on that penalty corner unit. She started all 19 games and recorded 10 goals and two assists for 22 points to tie for the team lead in goals and rank third in points. Lyons also had a team-high 62 shots and tied for the team high in game-winning goals. In America East, she ranked seventh in goals per game and ninth in points per game. Lyons, who has scored a goal each of the last three games, tallied a point in 10 of 19 games and scored a goal in nine games. Her season highlights also include career highs in both goals (two) and points (four) at Holy Cross. Lyons was named the MVP of the Wildcat Invitational as a member of the All-Wildcat Invitational Team.

Evan Russell '12 Wins FCTW Golf Tournament

Kimball Union junior Evan Russell (Essex, VT) battled strong winds and a strong field of competitors to go wire-to-wire and capture this weekends Future Collegians World Tour Golf Tournament at Newport National Golf Club in Newport, RI. The FCTW is an organization committed to helping young men and women in their pursuit of earning a college scholarship through the challenge of competitive golf. The event in Newport included golfers from Italy, Canada, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Vermont, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Rhode Island. Playing in 30 mile an hour winds on Saturday Russell shot a 78, on a day where the average score was an 87, to take the lead. On Sunday the winds died down some to about 15 miles an hour. Russell's 76 was able to hold off a couple of competitors in hot pursuit. Today's win was Russell's first FCTW victory.

KUA Win New England High School Division II Rugby Tournament.

For the third year in a row KUA took home first place in the annual division II tournament. As was the case last year, The KUA side travelled to the tournament with only 16 active players. A lack of replacement players would come back to haunt the side in the third match, but, at the start of the day everyone was ready for the grueling schedule ahead. The weather on the day affected the play of all teams.
The first match of the day pitted KUA against Scituate High School (MA). Harrison Spayth, playing in his first match back from injury, opened the scoring for KUA with a two meter try from the far right side. The weather conditions reeked havoc on the kicking game throughout the match, making wide PAT’s virtually impossible. At the half, KUA lead 5-0. Neither side could find the try area in the second half, but Matisse Baumann scored a penalty kick at the ten minute mark to put KUA up 8-0. That was all the scoring that was needed as KUA’s defense kept Scituate out of the try area in the final ten minutes. KUA was advancing to the second round!
In the second round KUA took on Seacoast RFC out of Portsmouth, NH. Seacoast advanced with a victory of Worcester, MA in round one. This match was a second meeting of the two sides. KUA fell to Seacoast 10-5 on April 10th. It was the first match of the year for the KUA side. This, however, was a more seasoned KUA side. It was a tightly contested match before Daria Mashouf returned a kick 60 meters for a try. This was the second week in a row that Daria returned a ‘kick for territory’ back for a big run. KUA led 5-0 at the half, but it was clear that this was going to be another very close match. In the second half Matisse Baumann added a second penalty kick on the afternoon. Seacoast responded with their first try to close the gap to 8-5. The last few minutes were very physical, as both sides fought hard to control the ball. In the end, however, KUA held on for an 8-5 win.
The championship match pitted KUA against Middlesex RFC of Wayland, MA. Middlesex had defeated Wilbraham Monson Academy and Kearsarge High School to advance to the finals. The previous matches took their toll on the KUA side. An injury to Philip Sparks left the side with only the minimum 15 players. For the final match of the afternoon the KUA side was forced to shuffle some players. In came flanker Miles Cota. Harrison Spayth was moved to outside center. It should be noted that Harrison had never played this position before.
As in the first two matches KUA was the first to find the try area when Ahmad Mashabi scored from eight meters out. This was no small feat as Middlesex dominated the first 10 minutes of the half. Once again, KUA led 5-0 at the half. In the second half, Matisse Baumann managed to add to the lead with another penalty kick. Soon after, however, Daria Mashouf was knocked out of the match with a leg injury. KUA was forced to play a man down for the remaining 10 minutes. Despite a number of counter attacks and close calls by the Middlesex side, KUA held on for an 8-0 win.
Man of the match honors went to the entire KUA team. Rugby is a tough sport! Every member of the KUA rugby side played three exceptional matches on the day. Hug a KUA rugger on Monday!
KUA’s final match of the season against Wilbraham-Monson Academy (MA) is scheduled for Wednesday May 19th at 3:00. This will be the first match up of two prep schools since 1907.

Evan Roberts '07 Selected to England National Lacrosse Team

Evan Roberts, KUA Class of 2007, has been selected to the 23 man England National Lacrosse Team that will be playing in the Lacrosse World Championship this summer in London. England will play in the Elite Blue Division that includes national teams from the United States, Canada, Iroquois Nation, Australia, and Japan. Evan is currently a junior at Bryant College. He has been a member of the Division I Bryant program since graduating from KUA and plays a major role as one of Bryant’s top faceoff specialist.

At the annual Hockey Night in Boston All-Scholastic Banquet, KUA Head Boys' Hockey Coach, Ryan Miller, was named the Prep-Private Small Division Coach of the Year.
During his third season as KUA's head coach, Ryan led the team to victory at the Piatelli/Simmons New England Championship after a 24-8-2 (WLT) season.

KUA Captures Piatelli/Simmons Small School New England Championship

The Kimball Union Boys Varsity Hockey team outdueled Dexter School 3-2 in double overtime to clinch the Piatelli/Simmons Small School New England Championship in Salem, NH. In front of a packed house at the Salem Ice Center, KUA got on the board first when PG Dan Cornell ripped a snap shot from the point on the power play that found the top corner, sophomore Thomas Flynn assisted on the play. With 10 seconds remaining in the first period Dexter would answer with a shot from the top of the circle that found the low stick side corner. After a scoreless second period the teams entered the third tied at one. Midway through the third sophomore Dennis Kravchenko put KUA up 2-1 when he broke in one on one and rifled a shot top corner past the Dexter goalie. A minute later Dexter answered when a shot from the point hit a KUA player and deflected in. With the scored 2-2 at the end of regulation the teams took the ice for overtime. KUA played a great overtime period as a team and created several chances to end the game, but the Dexter goalie Kevin Green came up big. With 30 seconds left in OT Kravchenko broke in alone off a great pass from junior Gabriel Veilleux and was hauled down. KUA took a power play opportunity into double overtime and cashed in when junior Peter LaFosse cranked a shot off a scrum that deflected right under the cross bar for the sudden death victory. The game was a fast paced contest that was entertaining for all involved. Senior Josh Dollinger, juniors Pat Doherty and Rafael Turcotte had great games on defense. The Wildcats ended the year 24-8-2, their second straight 20 win season.

Boys Hockey Team Advances to Semi Finals

The KUA Boys Varsity Hockey Team will advance to the semi final game of the Piatelli/Simmons Post Season Tournament with a 4-1 quarterfinal win over St. George's School.junior Kevin Moreau,junior Ryan Cole, sophomore Dennis Kravchenko and junior Gabriel Veilleux all scored for the Wildcats. Junior Martin Ouellette made 18 saves on 19 shots for the win. KUA will face Tilton School in the semifinal game to be played at the Salem Ice Center at 9:00am on Saturday morning.

Diaz Sisters Named to All-New England All Star Team

Sisters Greydy '10 and Gabriella Diaz '12 were recently named to the All-New England All-Star team. This year marks the third consecutive year that Greydy has represented Kimball Union at the all-star contest. The game will take place on Sunday, March 7 at Nobles & Greenough School in Dedham, MA.

Martin Ouellette '11 Named to NEPSAC All New England Team

KUA goalie Martin Ouellette '11 from St. Hippolyte, Quebec, has been named to the NEPSAC All New England Team, an award voted on by coaches throughout New England. Ouellette is also currently ranked 17th among North American goaltenders on the NHL Central Scouting List in preparation for the NHL draft this June.

Boys' Basketball Advance to Quarter Finals

Boys Hockey Team to Play in Piatelli-Simmons Tournament
The Boys Hockey Team has qualified for the New England Prep School Small School Tournament also known as the Piatelli-Simmons Tournament. KUA is the #1 seed and will play #8 seeded St. Georges on Wednesday at The Winchendon School. Game time is currently schedule for 3:30 pm but may be moved to 4 pm. The Semi-Finals will be held Saturday at either 9am or 11:30am and the Final will be played on Sunday at 10:30am. The Semi-Finals and the Finals will be held at the Salem Ice Center in Salem, NH.

Drew Simoneau '11 Selected to Play in 2010 adidas National Lacrosse Classic

Drew Simoneau '11 has been named an adidas High School All-America and has been selected to represent the Northeast Region in the 2010 adidas National Lacrosse Classic to be held in Germantown, Maryland July 5-8, 2010.
The adidas National Lacrosse Classic brings the top 500 high school underclassmen lacrosse players in the country to one venue, where 20 regional teams will compete to become the 2010 USA Champion and earn the chance to compete for an International Championship against Canada.

Greydy Diaz '10 Scores her 1000th Point

On Saturday, February 20 in a game against Groton, Greydy Diaz '10 scored her 1000th point.
Diaz is a 4-year member of the girls’ varsity basketball program. As a freshman, Greydy scored two foul shots with 9.1 seconds remaining in the New England Prep School Championship basketball game allowing her team to bring home its 4th NEPSAC title in 7 years. As a testament to her leadership abilities, Greydy has been elected by her teammates as a captain for the past three years. She has also represented KUA at the annual New England Prep School All-Star Game in 2008, 2009 and 2010. Diaz is averaging 13.6 points per game, 4.2 rebounds per game and is shooting an impressive 44.6 % from beyond the arc this season.
After spending a semester abroad in China during her junior year, Greydy, an honors student, has become very interested in studying International Business in college. She has been accepted at Bentley College, Fairfield University, Merrimack College & Philadelphia University to name a few.

Gustavo Cruz '10 Signs with University of Connecticut

Gustavo Cruz '10 signed a National Letter of Intent to join the UConn Huskies on Wednesday, February 3, 2010. A native of the Dominican Republic who now lives in Manchester, NH, he was named NEPSAC (New England Preparatory School Athletic Council) Class C Lineman of the Year and 2009 All-New England Prep. He is a two-time All-Evergreen League selection and was a KUA Wildcat team captain.

KUA Hockey Players Featured in Le Journal de Montreal

Martin Ouellette '11 and Gabriel Veilleux '11 were subjects of a lenghty article on Quebecois hockey players making the choice to attend US boarding schools in the prominent Montreal daily, Le Journal de Montreal on December 20.
Both boys said they based their decision to attend Kimball Union on the quality of education it offers.
"When you leave with your diploma, you are well-prepared for the future," said Gabriel who says that he hopes to attend an American university.
Martin Ouellette, who recently turned 18, said that attending a prep school has not affected his chances of being recruited. "When we have tournaments they are many recruiters in the stands." (Ouellette is number 17 in the NHL 2010 Entry Draft North American Goalies Midterm Rankings.)
When asked about the challenges of transitioning to an English-speaking boarding school, both boys admitted that it was difficult at first. "But there is a very good framework of support. You are on campus 24/7 and the teachers are always there. We improve consistently from one report card to the next. And having only 10-12 students in each class helps trememdously," said Martin.
Head Coach Ryan Miller said that English was a challenge for the boys at first. "But they are now completely integrated into our community and our (hockey) program."
He also admits that Quebec is fertile ground for talented young hockey players. Out of 24 KUA players, 7 are Quebecois. He attributes some of that to KUA's proximity to the Montreal area, which is an easy 3 drive.

Basketball Coach Eileen Williams Celebrates 200th Victory!

Today’s 64-31 victory over visiting Gann Academy marks the 200th victory for Coach Eileen Williams. Williams, now in her 12th year of coaching basketball at Kimball Union Academy, is 200-80 during her tenure.
The Wildcats played with a high level of intensity for the entire 32 minutes with all players on the roster seeing significant minutes. Emily Kelly, a soccer goalie for the Cayman Island National Team, scored her first two buckets of the season while ripping down 5 rebounds. Four players scored in double figures for KUA with Gabby and Greydy Diaz leading the way each with 13 points. A local trio of seniors played particularly well in today’s contest. Shelby Pillsbury (Claremont, NH) netted a season-high 11 points while Tori Agel (Meriden, NH) chipped in with 10 points. Ainsley MacDonald (Plainfield, NH) played a strong all-around game grabbing several rebounds, scoring 9 points and playing tenacious defense.
KUA pulled down a season-high 41 rebounds, 21 of them off the offensive glass. The Cats took good care of the ball once again by committing just 11 turnovers as compared to 25 for Gann.
Kimball Union improves to 6-1 on the season and will play host to Proctor Academy on Wednesday at 2p.m.

Emily Kelly '12 to Start in Goal in World Cup Qualifying Soccer Match

KUA sophomore Emily Kelly will start in net as the Cayman Island under 17 National Women’s team prepares for its final World Cup qualifying first round match this Saturday. Emily, a first year student from the Cayman Islands, is in her second year as the starting keeper for her country’s U-17 National Team. She was instrumental this fall in her team’s two wins over the Bahamas and the British Virgin Islands. After falling 1-0 to Haiti, Emily’s team finished in second place in its group play and now must win a home and home playoff series against the Dominican Republic to advance to the second round of World Cup qualifying matches. Emily started this past Saturday to help lead her team to a favorable 2-2 tie in the first playoff match that was played in the Dominican Republic. She sustained a minor concussion early in the first half and was not able to continue. She has recovered fully and is excited for Saturday’s home game. Her team needs a win to advance to the second round of World Cup qualifying matches to be played in Costa Rica in March. Country’s that have already qualified for this tournament include Haiti, Costa Rica, the USA, and Canada. Good luck Emily!

KUA Field Hocky repeats as NEPSAC Champs

Two perennial Lakes Region League powers, Kimball Union Academy and Holderness School, met in the NEPSAC (New England Prep School Athletic Association) Class C field hockey finals on Sunday, Nov. 22nd at Williston Northampton School in Easthampton, MA. KUA came away with a 2-0 victory to secure their 3rd straight Class C NEPSAC title and their 7th since 1999. During the regular season KUA and Holderness swapped hard-fought wins on away turf, leaving the NEPSAC finals to decide the rubber match.
Number one seed KUA started off the game a bit nervous but soon found their stride ten minutes into the game by taking control of the midfield and forcing the three seed Holderness back on their heels in front of their goal. Midfielders Kate Higgins (Cornwall, VT) and Andrea Hoisington, (S. Pomfret, VT) stopped several Holderness threats to advance the ball and supported the offensive line of Jen Hand, and the Joyce sisters, Kellie and MacKenzie (S. Pomfret, VT). Holderness found it difficult to counter-attack and gain ground, largely due to the stellar play of the back line, Bianca Mills (Pembroke, NH), Nicolle Moore (Plainfield, NH), and Emily Reeves, (Springfield, VT), all of whom made solid individual plays at key points in the half. KUA found the back of the cage with 13:28 remaining in the first half with a tip-in by Jan Hand off a crossing pass by Bridget Jarecki (Hanover, NH) from MacKenzie Joyce. Two minutes later, KUA pressed again and put the ball in the goal, but the official ruled "no goal" on a KUA foul in the circle. Undeterred, KUA continued to take the play to Holderness and tallied their second goal with 1:47 remaining in the half when MacKenzie Joyce tucked away a rebound off the goalie's pads.
The second half opened with a Holderness rally that was short-lived; goalkeeper Shelby Pillsbury made two key stops when called upon in what proved to be potential momentum changing shots, and locked up her tenth shut-out of the season. For the remainder of the half the field tilted KUA's way, though they could not put the ball behind the Holderness keeper despite several solid chances in front of the goal, including a penalty stroke foiled by the goalie and giving Holderness a glimmer of hope.
With the win, KUA finished the season as Lakes Region Champions and NEPSAC Champions with a record of 17-1-1.

Josh Huett '12 is Lakes Region Cross Country Champion

On Wednesday, November 11 Josh Huett '12 placed first in the Lakes Region League race hosted at KUA. Huett ran the 5 kilometer course in a record-setting 18 minutes 21 seconds. Team mates Danny Lowenstein '10 ( 6th - 19:34) and Aaron Picard '11 (7th - 19:35) both qualified for the all Lakes REgion team with their top 10 finished. Overall, the boys placed second.
Elizabeth Moses led the KUA girls with a third place finish (23:58) followed by teammates Liz Exton in fourth place. The grils placed third overall.

The Wildcat football team (8-0) has been selected to play in the NEPSAC Sampson-Lorden Bowl on Saturday, November 21 against Lawrence Academy. The game between these two unbeaten teams will be played at Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, MA Kick-off is at noon.

Bri Wheeler '10 Pitches No Hitter

Brianne Wheeler ’10 pitched her first no hitter of the season yesterday in a 12-0 blanking of the Proctor Hornets. Wheeler faced 23 total batters, fanning eight while giving up no runs, no hits and no walks. She helped herself at the plate as well with four hits in four trips, including a sacrifice, a triple and and two RBI’s. Wheeler is 6-3 on the mound this season and has a ERA of 1.3. In 61 innings of action, Wheeler has struck out 64 batters while walking just 16.

Ryan Cole '11 Chosen to Attend USA National Development Camp

Ryan Cole, a KUA sophomore from Anchorage, Alaska, was chosen to attend the elite USA National Development Camp in Rochester, NY
June 26-July 2 for his age group, 16 year olds or 1992 birthdays.
Each summer USA Hockey conducts Select
Player Development Camps for young athletes from throughout the country. The
athletes are chosen from tryouts conducted within USA Hockey Districts, with
some slots reserved for at-large selections. The goal is to attract the best
players, in their specific age group, to this national program.
The purpose
of the Camps is to identify, train, educate and evaluate our best athletes.
Individuals are selected by Districts to attend the week-long event. During this
week, our players are evaluated by our national scouting program, college and
junior recruiters and professional scouts. The competition gives each player the
opportunity to measure themselves against others his/her age, gain knowledge
about his/her development and to be exposed to outstanding
coaching.
Ryan was KUA's second leading scorer this year as a
sophomore with 20 goals, 16 assists for 36 points. He had a 13 game scoring
streak this season.

Amelia Good '11Defends State Title

Amelia Good '11 successfully defended her state title in the 100 yard breaststroke at the New Hampshire State Swimming Association Championships held March 20-22 at Phillips Exeter Academy. Good, a Meriden resident and leading member of the KUA swim team, won the title for 15 & 16-year-old girls last year just days after her 15th birthday, setting a new record in the process. She won again this year with a time of 1:11.41.
Representing the North Country Aquatic Club (which is connected with the KUA team), Good also was part of a girls 15-19-year-old relay team that won gold medals in both the 200-yard freestyle and medley events. The medley relay set a new state record of 1:56.01. Good also won silver medals in the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle events, knocking nearly a minute off her time in the longer race.

Boys' Varsity Hockey are Lakes Regions Champions!

Sunday March 1: KUA 5 Proctor 4
The KUA Boys Varsity Hockey Team edged Proctor Academy by a score of 5-4 to win the Lakes Region Championship. KUA started slow and found themselves down 2-0 heading into the second period. KUA would rebound with a solid second period, putting the pressure on early but failing to break the shut out until late in the second. Senior Assistant Captain Justin Wright broke down the right side and snapped off a couple shots and one finally rebounded to Sophomore Gabriel Veilleux and he finished to put KUA on the board. Minutes later KUA would even the score when PG Andrew Murmes snapped a shot five hole on the power play, assists went to Senior Captain Michael Basist and Junior Josh Dollinger.

Girls Claim Elusive Slalom Title At Blackwater
Varsity skiers battle significant adversity, injury, illness to claim the title!
The girls varsity alpine team claimed its second title this season, adding a slalom title to the GS crown claimed two weeks ago. On a typically tough day at Blackwater, a hill which haunts our skiers, the girls fought through a shrunken roster with senior Kelley Noonan falling ill, and sophomore Clare Menzel suffering a possible torn ACL. In the end , four of our skiers stood up and took home the title!

Bill Pottle is Recipient of NEPSAC 2009 Distinguished Service Award

Bill Pottle, was recognized by the New England Preparatory
School Athletic Council at their annual meeting in November for his years of
distinguished service as a lacrosse coach and athletic director.
The NEPSAC Distinguished Service Award is given annually to
the individual who has contributed significantly to New England Independent
School Athletics and Physical Education through enthusiasm, dedication,
leadership and vision.
Pottle joined Kimball Union as head boys’ varsity lacrosse
coach and science teacher in 1999 with over two decades of teaching and
coaching experience. He became the Director of Athletics in 2002 and was soon
appointed to the George Akerstrom Chair for the Athletic Director.
For 22 years, Bill had served at Brewster Academy
as the athletic director and coach of boys’ soccer, basketball, and lacrosse.
“Grizz,” as he is affectionately known by the many players
he coached over the years, shared his passion for the sport of lacrosse with
each of them. He is known for the great rapport he had with his players, and
the close ties he maintains with many alumni. Bill retired from Kimball Union
in 2008.

Whitney Frates '08 Named America East Field Hockey Rookief the Week

UNH freshman Whitney Frates '08 was named America East field hockey rookie of the week for the week ending October 12, 2008.
Frates extended
her point-scoring streak to six games with a goal against Dartmouth and
an assist on the game-winning goal at Maine. Her goal against Dartmouth
helped the Wildcats erase a two-goal deficit and leveled the scored,
2-2 just 1:46 into the second half. Frates set up UNH's fourth goal of
the game on Saturday, which came in the 47th minute and gave the 'Cats
a two-goal advantage at Maine.

Scott Gordon '82 Named Head Coach of New York Islanders

New York Islanders General Manager Garth Snow has named Scott Gordon
the team's head coach. Gordon, the reigning American Hockey League
Coach of the Year with the Providence Bruins, is the 14th head coach in
franchise history. He has agreed to a multi-year contract with the
Islanders.
"Scott has been one of the top up-and-coming
coaches in hockey and with good reason," said Snow. "Through his work
in the minor leagues and most recently with Providence over the last
eight years, he has gained an impeccable reputation. The entire
Islanders organization looks forward to working with Scott."
"Garth has given me an unbelievable opportunity to coach in the NHL
with the Islanders,” said Gordon. “From my time coaching in Providence,
I’ve seen firsthand the talented young players in this organization. I
look at the direction and the vision for this team and see a bright
future.”
Gordon was captain and goaltender of the 1981-1982 KUA Hockey
Team, and lead the squad to the New England Prep School Championship. In 2007, he was awarded the prestigious Kimball Union Sportsmanship Award in recognition of his accomplishments as a player and coach.
"You
have played and coached at the highest levels and have excelled at every step
along the way. You are an inspiration
and a role model for so many of Kimball Union’s students and young alumni. Your competitive drive is strong, but you
temper it well with class and dignity," said KUA Director of Development Carl Lovejoy in recognizing Scott for the award in May 2007.

Andrew Wheating '06 Heads to Olympics in Beijing!

On Monday, June 30th, Andrew Wheating '06 capped an amazing track and field season by earning a place on the US Olympic team. Andy will be one of three Americans competing in the 800M track and field event. The Associated Press reported that Wheating and Nick Symmonds, who also goes to school in Oregon, got one of the loudest ovations of the trials as they crossed the finish line at the finals.
"People are calling Andy's achievement the Cinderella story. The earnest college kid in a field of professional athletes. This couldn't have happened to a more humble person. Every time Andy and I have spoken during the Trials, he keeps thanking the fans, his friends and
family, and KUA. There is no one more deserving of an Olympic medal than Andy. My brothers were at the finals, and they said that Hayward Field, all of Eugene--even the local groceries are alive with Wheating Fever. He's the crowd favorite. I predict we'll be eating from a box of Olympic "Wheating Wheaties" within a year. Go Andy," said faculty member Kevin Ramos-Glew.
It's been quite a year for Andrew Wheating '06, a sophomore at the University of Oregon. He was the first Vermonter to break the four minute mile, and had an almost unbeaten season competing on the DUCKS track and field team. He met the "A" qualifying standard in two events for the Olympic Trials - the 800 and the 1500 meter runs.

KUA Rugby Team Champions

The KUA rugby football club traveled to Pembroke, NH on Saturday, May 10 to participate in the NE High School Rugby Championship, and came home as the division IIB champions. In the first match of the day, KUA built up a 12-0 lead in the first half, and then went on to defeat Falmouth RFC (MA) 29-5. Travis Jones'09 and Justin Burke'08 scored two try’s each, and Zak Al-Haffar'09 had one. Nate McCann'09 added 2 PATs in the match.

KUA Swimmers Shine at NH Swimming Championships

Kimball Union Academy swimmers, together with teammates from North Country Aquatic Club, broke three state records and took home 13 gold medals at the New Hampshire Swimming Association Championships held March 14-16 at Phillips Exeter Academy.
Amelia Good '11, of Meriden, set a New Hampshire record in the girls 15 & 16-year-old 100 breaststroke with a winning time of 1:11.16. Senior Devon Cota, of Bellows Falls took two individual golds in her age group, in the 200 free (1:59.07) and the 500 free (5:21.49). Caitlin Michaels '09 won the 100 back with a time of 1:03.80. Amelia Good, Devon Cota, Caitlin Michaels and teammate Allie Reeder of Wilmot broke a record in the 200 medley(1:56.19). Good and Cota were also part of the team who won the 200 free relay in 1:43.82.

LADY WILDCATS ARE HEADED FOR THE BASKETBALL POST-SEASON!

KUA earned
the #8 seed in the upcoming New England Prep School Tournament with
a huge win over Class B Governor's Academy yesterday in Alumni
Gymnasium. With everything riding on this contest, the Wildcats rose
to the challenge and came away with a 52-48 victory. This year will
mark the 11th consecutive trip to the NEPSAC Tournament for Kimball
Union. The Cats captured the championship title in 2000, 2001, 2003
and most recently in 2007.
KUA will tip-off against top-seeded
Hamden Hall in a rematch of last year's championship game on Wednesday,
February 27th at 3:30p.m. at Deerfield Academy (Deerfield, MA)

KUA Girls Alpine Team are 2008 NEPSAC Class A Champions!

Caysea Benner won both slalom and GS event,
making her the reigning New England champion of
both disciplines! Addie Herbert finished 5th in slalom and
2nd in GS, Charlotte Herbert finished 20th in slalom (fell
and hiked) and 10th in GS, Kelley Noonan finished 12th in
slalom and 16th in GS, and Clare Menzel finished 15th in
slalom. As a team they pulled together and really left the other teams
comfortably behind, establishing themselves as a small team to be reckoned
with!
The boys skied very well also.
Unfortunately, only 2 finished their slalom runs with Brian Moses finishing
11th overall and Eric Plausteiner finishing
14th.
In GS they collected themselves as a
group! Ethan Creeger finished 15th, Brian Moses 17th,
Eric Plausteiner 21st, Guillermo Ungria 31st, and Nat
Houston 34th. They finished in 7th place
overall.

KUA Swimmers Excel at Harvard Meet

February 13, 2008 -- Three KUA swimmers qualified to compete at the New
England Age Group Championships held at Harvard last weekend. All of
them are members of KUA's new swim team.
Amelia
Good '11 qualified for the finals and earned Top 16 finishes
in two events. Good, 14, of Meriden, NH placed 8th in the girls
13-14-year-old 100-yard breastroke (1:11.20) and 11th in the 200 breast
(2:32.77). She also competed in the 50 free, 100 free and 200
individual medley events.
To compete in the meet, swimmers
had to meet tough qualifying standards. The other KUA swimmers who
competed against some of New England's best swimmers this weekend were
Devon Cota '08 from Bellows Falls, VT. and Caitlin Michaels
'09 of Hanover, NH. Cota had strong performances in the 50, 100, 200,
500 and 1650 freestyle races, as well as in the 200 IM and 100
butterfly, while Michaels swam well in the 100 and 200 backstroke
events.

Whitney Frates '08 Signs Letter of Intent with UNH
2/11/2008
DURHAM, N.H. - Robin Balducci, 17th-year head coach of
the University of New Hampshire field hockey team, has announced that
seven student-athletes have signed a National Letter of Intent to
attend UNH in Fall 2008 and join the Wildcats' program.
"Since I have been here, this is the deepest, most talented group as a whole and I am very pleased," Balducci said.
Whitney Frates of Woodstock, VT., a 5-4 forward, is a
three-sport athlete at Kimball Union Academy who letters in field
hockey, ice hockey and lacrosse. She competed at the National Futures
Tournament in 2006 and 2007 and has garnerned All-America Second Team
honors. Frates captained the team in '07 and '08 and was named MVP both seasons. She broke the school's single-season point record
with 31 goals and 25 assists as a senior and also became the program's
all-time points leader with 73 goals and 40 assists. Frates also
received NEPSWA All-Star recognition as a junior and senior. In
addition, she earned Northern New England All-Star accolades in
lacrosse.

KUA's Girls' Varsity Basket Ball Team Conduct Another Sucessful Clinic

Kimball Union's Girls' Varsity Basketball Team conducted a clinic at Newport's Towle Elementary School on Tuesday, January 15th. There were twenty-one 4th and 5th graders who took part in this event. Nine members of the KUA basketball team volunteered and led drills in various basketball skill. This event is an annual favorite among the players and participants as well.

elite group of athletes in the invitational race on February 5, 2008
January 24, 2008, Meriden, NH
-- KUA Senior Peter Abdu of Hanover,
NH, will participate in the 31st
Annual Empire State Building Run-up, an invitational race that will take place
on Tuesday, February 5, 2008. Competitors
are invited to participate based on the athletic ability and background.
"I first heard of the race when I was in 6th grade,"says Abdu, who is a member of Kimball Union's cross-country, Nordic skiing and
cycling teams, "I couldn’t wait to turn 18 so that I would meet their entry
criteria."
Peter and his fellow racers will run up 1,576 steps, almost
a quarter of a mile and 102 stories above Fifth Avenue, finishing on the
observation deck. He has been running up and down the stairs of Thompson Arena
at Dartmouth College in preparation for the event.

Live Broadcasts Bring KUA Athletics to You!

Kimball Union, in partnership with B2 Networks, introduced live streaming broadcasting of a selection of our home hockey and basketball games earlier this winter. A schedule of the events that will be broadcast is downloadable on the left.
Faculty member Michael Klaus has provided much of the play-by-play, as well as mentorship for aspiring student broadcasters and color commentators. Student volunteers have taken responsibility for videoing the games.
We hope that those of you who have viewed games have found it to be the next best thing to being there!

hockey and basketball games live this season. We have joined in partnership with
B2 Networks to offer this pay-per-view live streaming video service. B2 Networks
have partnered with colleges and universities and youth hockey organizations
across the country to bring live games to fans across the
globe. We are very pleased to be the first prep school to offer this service.

near and far and our community of friends and alumni the opportunity to share

KUA to Host Training Camp for 55th Annual Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl

January 6, 2008 -- Organizers of the 55th Annual Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl have announced that the training camp for the football game will be held at Kimball Union Academy this year. Practices for both teams will be held from July 23 - August 1, 2008. The game will take place at Dartmouth on August 2.
Kimball Union's head football coach, John Lyons - a former Dartmouth head coach -proposed the idea. Shriners' President Henry Roberts said at a press conference on Sunday, "KUA is only 10 miles from (Lebanon) so it will be a lot easier on the Shrienrs to get there, and they have terrific facilities."

KUA Athletes Win NEPSAC Triple Crown!

Field Hockey, Football and Boys' Soccer Garner NEPSAC Championship Titles
November 19, 2007 was a banner weekend for KUA athletics, with three teams taking home top honors in NEPSAC championship games.
KUA hosted the NEPSAC Division C Field Hockey semi-finals and finals on November 17 and 18. On Saturday they posted a 4-1 victory over the Gunnery School and then sealed the championship title on Sunday with a 4-0 victory over long-time rival Holderness School. This is the 5th time in a decade that KUA has won the NEPSAC championship.
On Saturday, the undefeated Wildcat football team took on Lawrence Academy ended their perfect season with a 28-0 victory, winning the NEPSAC Austin Bowl.
On Saturday, the Boys' Soccer team defeated Rivers School 1-0 in the NEPSAC Class B semi-finals at Phillips Exeter Academy, and then garnered the championship at Middlesex on Sunday against Brooks, winning 2-1 with a goal scored in the last 14 seconds of the game.

KUA International Athletes Featured in USA Today

November 11, 2007 -- Four Kimball Union football players from Germany were mentioned today in an article in USA Today featuring international players. Kasim Edebali, Timm Kaminski of Kiel, Reuben Austin-Schmidt, a running back from
Dusseldorf; and linebacker/offensive lineman Christoff Kurzer of Berlin are all at KUA through USA Football's International Student Program. Kaminski and Austin-Schmidt are in their second years at Kimball Union, while Edebali and Kurzer joined the Wildcats this year. Coach John Lyons was instrumental in facilitating the connection between plays and the program. All four players have been instrumental in helping the Wildcats (8-0) set a record-breaking season and make it to the New England Private Schools Athletic Conference (NEPSAC) Championships.
"Some of these kids come over with a pretty good understanding of
football and skills. Once we learned their best position,
some of the techniques were new to them. For the most part, I'm amazed
how quickly a player like Kasim can pick up things," commented Lyons in the article.

KUA Students Head to Eastern Zone Swimming Championships

Kimball Union senior Devon Cota and incoming freshman Amelia Good will
head to the Eastern Zone Championships to represent the North Country
Aquatic Club next week based on their qualifying perfomances at Harvard.
Devon
Cota had several personal- and season- best times in the 100- and
200- meter freestyle and 200 butterfly. Amelia Good finished third with
a personal record in the 200 breast stroke.

KUA Teams Shine in the Lakes Region!

The boys’ lacrosse team ended the 2007 season with a record of 9-5 and share a Lakes Region League Tri-Championship with Holderness School and Brewster Academy. The girls’ lacrosse team had a great season as well, ending it as co-Lakes Region Champions with Holderness with only 2 league losses all season long! On the courts, the boys’ tennis team claimed the Lakes Region championship and were undefeated against league opponents this spring.

Cindy Roseen '07 Reaches Major Milestone
2/26/2007
Cindy Roseen, needing just three points in
Saturday's contest to reach 1,000 career points, hit two foul shots in the first
half and had a put back in the opening minute of the second stanza to become a
member of the 1,000 Club. Roseen netted 15 points and pulled down 10
rebounds in a 51-45 victory over top-ranked Class B Governor's Academy securing
a number 1 seed in the upcoming Class C NEPSAC (New England Prep School Athletic
Council) basketball tournament. KUA ends the regular-season with an
impressive 21-3 record.

Kimball Union Academy athletic trainers Katherine Bello and Bob Hyjek
were recognized by New Hampshire Athletic Trainers Association NHATA)
president Neil Duval at an all school assembly at Kimball Union today
as the recipients of the NHATA 2006 NH Most Distinguished Trainer
Award. Members of the KUA community paid tribute to them with a
standing ovation following the announcement and award presentation.

KUA Wins Rivers Tournament

KUA won the Rivers School Holiday Tournament today for the 4th consecutive year by beating Dana Hall School 51-39.
Tri-Captains Kelly Champagne, Cindy Roseen and Quinn Sendall helped lead their basketball team to a 4th straight holiday tournament championship this past weekend in Weston, MA. KUA bested Middlesex School 51-35 in the opening round and then beat Dana Hall 51-38 in the championship game of The Rivers School Holiday Tournament on December 15th and 16th. This is the 4th such title for 4-year seniors Champagne, Roseen and Sendall.

KUA Wins NMH Invitational Championship

Tri-captain Cindy Roseen '07 named to All-Tournament Team.
KUA held Trois Rivieres to just 3 points in the
first 10 minutes of the final game of the NMH Invitational. Trois
Rivieres went on a mini-run at the end of the half to bring the score
to 30-12 at the break. Cindy Roseen was on fire in the first half
scoring 16 of her game-high 22 points. Freshman Tori Agel helped lead
the defensive charge as she got her hands on many loose balls
(team-high 6 steals and 1 block) and led the press. Marion Githegi
again dished out 10 assists while effectively running the offense.
Lauren Darnall played a well-rounded game recording 9 points, 5 assists
and 4 steals while playing aggressive D. Greydy Diaz scored double
figures for the second game in a row netting 10 points. KUA now stands
at 4-1 on the season. The Wildcats will host the Tilton Rams on
Wednesday afternoon.

SCA Survivor Matt Keene '08 Turns a Life Changing Event Into a Life Saving Mission

On October 18,2006 as a routine football practice was just winding up, Matt Keene '08 collapsed on the field after suffering sudden cardiac arrest (SCA).
Thanks to the quick response of those on the field and KUA's medical staff and athletic trainers, Matt is here today to tell the story. Critical to his survival was the successful implementation of what is known as "the chain of survival" -- an immediate call to 911, early CPR, early defibrillation and immediate transport to an advanced care facility, in Matt's case, nearby Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.
After spending a week in the hospital and having a Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) surgically implanted, and a few more days at home recovering, Matt returned to KUA. Because of the risk of impacting his ICD, Matt, a three-season varsity athlete, will not be able to compete in contact sports. He can, however, lead an active life. Just what that means exactly, he is still considering, but one thing that he knows for sure is that he wants to turn his life-changing event into a life-saving event for others.

Andy Wheating '06 Wins Junior Olympics in Cross Country

Athletes, including Kimball Union's Andrew Wheating of Norwich , Vermont , persevered through strong winds in the aftermath of blizzard-like conditions that rocked the northeast Saturday at the USATF National Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships held at Bryant University in Smithfield , Rhode Island . More than 2,000 athletes age 8 to 18 from all 57 USATF Associations competed for boys' and girls' titles in 10 age divisions.

PARKING
Follow the Entrance road until you see one of the Gunstock Mountain Resort parking attendants…look for the bright yellow coats. The parking attendant will guide you to the nearest parking location.
During vacation periods (Christmas week, Martin Luther King weekend, & Presidents Day vacation) you may be directed to one of our satellite parking lots you will be transported to the base area by one of our shuttle buses…the kids like the open air shuttles the best! |

From Routes 89 and 91, take Route 4 & 11 east, and then follow Route 3

& 11 east to the town of Tilton. At first traffic light, take right onto

DirectionsFrom I-93:
Take Exit 23 off Interstate 93 and turn west toward Bristol. Follow Route 104 about one-half mile to the first blinking yellow light and turn left onto Route 132 (Main Street). One quarter mile down you will be driving through the main part of campus. Turn left at white church onto Shingle Camp Hill Road. Take next left onto Dr. Child's Road. Locker rooms, gym, rink, fields, etc. are at end of road.
From I-91:
Take Exit 10 on to I-89 south. Take Exit 17 to Route 4 east and follow to Danbury. Turn left onto Route 104 to Bristol and at lights turn right remaining on Route 104. Follow to blinking yellow light and turn right onto Main Street (firehouse on left). Continue from directions above. |

DirectionsDirections to the Northfield Campus (Meany Gym) and the Mount Hermon campus (Forslund Gym) from all major routes:
From the North - Vermont:
Route 91 south to Exit 28 N onto Routes 5 & 10 N. Continue approximately 4 miles, and Mount Hermon campus will be on the right. To go to the Northfield campus, proceed past Mount Hermon to a blinking red light at a T intersection. Turn left on Route 63. The campus is approximately 3.5 miles from the intersection on the right.
New Hampshire and north:
From Route 101 in Keene take Route 10S through Swanzey, Winchester. When you reach the intersection with Route 63 in Northfield, the campus will be on the left approximately 3/4 miles past the Route 63 and Route 10 intersection. The Mount Hermon campus is approximately 5 miles from Northfield campus: stay on Route 10 and 63 to the intersection. Turn right onto Route 10. Campus is on the left approximately 2 miles from the intersection.
Connecticut and south:
Take Route 91 N and get off at Exit 28 N onto Routes 5 and 10 N. Mount Hermon campus is approximately 4 miles ahead on the right. To go to the Northfield campus, continue on to an intersection with Route 63 (blinking red light) and turn left. Campus is on your right approximately 3.5 miles from the intersection.
From Boston and Worcester:
Take Route 2 west to Route 63 north. Stay on Route 63 for Northfield campus. For Mount Hermon campus take Route 10 south and school is 13 miles on your left, one-half mile after you cross the Connecticut River.
From Williamstown & N.Y. State:
Go east on Route 2 to Route 91 N. Proceed as described above. |
