K-Term 2016

After a pilot program launched in March 2015, Kimball Union’s K-Term program has expanded into a school-wide, week long, experiential and project based period at the end of the winter trimester. Leaving the classroom behind, students and faculty will think critically and creatively about the world around them, utilizing problem solving skills, and communicate back to our community their new understandings.

The freshmen class will discover the creative spirit and unique energies that set our place apart from all others. With an emphasis on four areas (industry, music and culture, environment, recreation), this class will investigate what makes the Upper Valley, Kimball Union’s extended community, a creative, energetic, and special environment.

In anticipation of junior year academic course work, the sophomore class is traveling to Washington, D.C. to experience war memorials from a variety of perspectives. Students will grapple with questions relating to war and the lasting impressions it makes on the global community. Ultimately this group will design their own memorial to recognize the major conflict occurring during their lifetime: “The War on Terror.”

Junior and Senior students have the option of selecting from a wide variety of K-Term options. The recent K-Term Fair was an extravaganza featuring opportunities to train dogs, understand the history and implications of code making, an immersion into Cuban culture, and many more.
