    2022 - 2023

KUA has been around for over two centuries, and in that time, it has a storied history of producing college and professional baseball players. Doc Hazelton played first base for the St. Louis Cardinals in the early 20th century and then went on to coach college baseball at Tufts, University of Vermont, and Dartmouth College. Robert Shaw, class of 1951, started game 5 of the 1959 World Series for the Chicago White Sox, and he beat Sandy Koufax of the LA Dodgers in the LA Memorial Coliseum in front of the largest crowd in history to ever see a Series game. Shaw pitched seven and a third innings, giving up no runs on nine hits and one walk. He struck out one. Former KUA Coaches include Pete Smith, who after an outstanding pitching career at Colgate was signed by the Boston Red Sox. He’s the only pitcher in MLB history to turn a 1-6-5-4 triple play after intentionally misplaying a popped-up bunt with runners on first and second. Current Vanderbilt Commodores Head Coach, Tim Corbin, a New Hampshire native, was a student-athlete on The Hilltop and is now arguably the best coach in college baseball. Corbin was named American Baseball Coaches Association and Collegiate Baseball’s coach of the year in 2019, one of two seasons Corbin has led the ‘Dores to a national championship.
Coach Van Dolah stabilized the program in his first few seasons in an effort to bring back the excellence that would make these former players and coaches proud. His focus on developing the student-athlete in the classroom, in our community, and on the field has yielded results in all areas of life that his players feel proud of and that keeps them coming back to watch games and reconnect with the program year after year.
During his tenure, Van Dolah has coached the Wildcats to five winning seasons, one Lakes Region League Championship (2013), and four semifinal appearances, with one championship game appearance (2018), in the Lakes Region League Tournament, which began in 2015. Recent graduates of the program have played college baseball at Endicott College, University of Vermont, and Roanoke College.
KUA Baseball is now in another transition period, ten years after Van Dolah took the helm. Chad Sturgeon joined the KUA coaching staff in 2019. He brings Division 1 playing experience and a passion for the game of baseball that he lives each day, exceptional knowledge of and experience teaching the game, motivating and developing players, and a deep understanding of the college recruiting process. He is a game-changer for our program.
He has coached high-level high school showcase teams in the southeast and mid-Atlantic (Delmarva Aces, Old Dominion Hitters), and he has former players currently at all levels of college baseball and a couple in the minor leagues as well. His coaching connections in the southeast and mid-Atlantic regions are unmatched in prep school baseball.
KUA’s program includes fall baseball options, weight training throughout the year, an off-season and pre-season arm care and arm strengthening program that blends techniques from the best velocity programs in the game today, indoor winter training, an annual spring training trip to the southeast in March (3-5 games), and a 20-game schedule against Lakes Region League schools and other non-league opponents in New Hampshire and Massachusetts.
The vision for KUA Baseball by the 2024 season is to be the premier Lakes Region League and northern New England Prep School baseball program for player development – growth in the classroom, as leaders in our community, as baseball players, and as teammates. KUA will have a full team of “baseball first” student-athletes who want to play college baseball. Fall captains lifts and on-field workouts will keep players sharp between playing in fall showcase tournaments on weekends. Our spring training trip will include a team road trip through parts of the mid-Atlantic and southeast. We will train every day, play games against some of the best competition in those areas while also visiting colleges and universities during the trip. KUA will also have three baseball coaches by the 2022 season in order to give players the position-specific training and instruction that they need for their development.
