KUA Captures Stanstead Showcase with win over Northwood

The Kimball Union Wildcats captured the Stanstead Showcase in Stanstead, Quebec by beating Northwood School 5-3 on Sunday. The Wildcats were once again led by senior forward Andranik Armstrong, who scored two goals for the second game in a row and senior goalie Sean Dynan who made several key saves to preserve the win.

The Wildcats jumped out to the early lead when sophomore Zach Whitehead scored his first goal of the year just four minutes in, with assists going to fellow sophomore line mates Tomas Mazura and Paul Dore. Northwood tied the score midway through the first period with a  powerplay goal. The score remained tied at one until Armstrong scored on a KUA power play in the second, but Northwood responded quickly by scoring on a powerplay of its own, which it then followed with a shorthanded goal to take a 3-2 lead. However, KUA kept pressing and junior Christian Felton scored his first goal as a Wildcat on the powerplay to knot the game at three heading into the third period. Just two minutes into the third, senior Logan Cash kicked the puck to his stick from behind the goal line and snuck a backhand shot past the Northwood goalie to give KUA a lead it would not relinquish, in large part to an incredible save by Dynan just minutes later. Armstrong’s second of the game with four minutes left sealed the deal for the Wildcats. Armstrong’s fourth goal in two games was assisted by junior Kyle Penney and senior Thomas Samuelson, who each finished with two assists. The Wildcats now break for Thanksgiving and are back in action on Saturday, December 2nd against Vermont Academy at Exeter.
