Exploring Naviance in Advisory

Naviance, the college and career readiness software has been used at KUA for a number of years to help students manage the college process.   The small group setting allowed faculty to focus on each student.
During the recent Compass Advising meetings, students explored Naviance with their advisor groups. The college and career readiness software has been used at KUA for a number of years to help students understand their strengths. In this week’s meeting, each grade participated in different self- assessments designed to increase their understanding of what type of school might best suit their needs and goals. They made connections between their aptitudes, and interests to develop and apply successful strategies during their college searches. The face-to-face setting allowed faculty and students to have purposeful time together. Freshman and sophomores logged on to Naviance for the first time to do a Learning Styles Inventory and came away with a better understanding of strategies and habits that will help make them more successful. These are the first steps they will build on as they move through their careers at KUA.
Juniors have been introduced to Naviance already and went through the “Myers Briggs Type Indicator” Assessment, exploring their personality traits and how they engage in the environment around them. Understanding themselves and how they make decisions is useful as they build a college list.
Seniors and post graduates, already very familiar with how Naviance helps users organize and track their college process, did a “Strengths Explorer”, identifying the particular strengths and preferences that might apply to college and their careers beyond.
Advisors and students alike learned a lot from the self- assessments and dialogue from the small groups. While advisors gain a deeper understanding of their advisees, the Naviance tool itself helps students have positive college outcomes.
