Warren Spencer Corbin

Charleston, SC Warren Spencer Corbin, 82, of Charleston, South Carolina, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at home surrounded by his loving family. His memorial service will be held Friday, November 11, 2016, at James Island Presbyterian Church, 1632 Fort Johnson Road at 11:00 a.m. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway. Warren was born April 28, 1934, in Gouverneur, New York, son of the late Harry Haynen Corbin and Dorothy Harvey Corbin. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. Warren received his Bachelor of Arts in History from Colgate University. He earned his Master's Degree in Social Studies from Syracuse University and his PhD in History and Education from the University of Rochester. He taught secondary school in Rochester, New York, before pursuing higher education. He was a full professor and Chairman of the Education Department at Northern Kentucky University. He served as Director of the Critical Needs Certification Program at Winthrop University before retiring. He will be remembered for his incredible wit, kind heart and passion for learning. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jane Carney Corbin of Charleston, SC; three children, Jeffrey Corbin of Folly Beach, SC, Stacie Webster (Tommy) of Union, KY, and Kara Bishop (Brad) of Dayton, OH; four grandchildren, Abigail Bishop, Zoe Bishop, Evan Webster, Clayton Webster; sister, Adelaide Nichols of Charleston, SC; brother, Charles "Mack" Corbin (Maureen) of Oldsmar, FL; and was preceded in death by sisters Carolyn "Carlie" and Catherine Corbin. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Carlie's Corner, Gouverneur Reading Room, 60 Church Street, Gouverneur, NY 13642.
