Virginia Johnson Laurie

Unity, N.H. — Virginia Johnson Laurie, 99, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully at Sullivan County Healthcare on Friday, Jan. 13, 2017. She was born in Vershire, Vt., on Aug. 10, 1917, the daughter of Charles and Nettie Johnson, and lived most of her life in and around Cornish, N.H.
She attended Kimball Union Academy, and always treasured her connection to that institution. She married Lucian Laurie Sr. on the 24th of June, 1939. Their love spanned 68 years until his death in 2007.
In her 99 years, besides being the mother of four children, she worked wherever she could to help provide for her family, including many years as a nurse’s aide and laboratory assistant.
Her passing leaves a daughter, Phyllis Potter of Pomfret, Vt.; a daughter-in-law, Debbie (Hall) Laurie of Deer Isle, Ore.; and a son, Lucian Jr. of King George, Va.; and many grand and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two of her four children, David and Joanne. Her granddaughter, Debbie Osgood of Reading, Vt., was a great comfort to her during her extended nursing home stay.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Sullivan County Healthcare for their dignified care as she passed.
There will be no calling hours. She will be cremated immediately, and her ashes laid to rest beside her beloved husband and youngest daughter at the Cornish Flat Cemetery in the spring.
