5th Annual Ethics Day Connects Students and Alumni Professionals

Kimball Union Academy recently hosted its 5th Annual Ethics Day. This event has grown into a marquis event as part of the Compass Leadership Program.  Compass is a school wide initiative to instill in students skills they need to navigate successful lives. As 9th grade students in the Choices Course, the introductory program of Compass, students develop time management skills, develop healthy relationships, and decision-making strategies. Students move through the Compass program throughout their time at Kimball Union, and as they participate in Ethics Day as seniors, they are well equipped to dig into difficult, real-world challenges they may face in their future.

Dean of Students, Brook Raney, reflected on the day:

The comfort zone and moral compasses of each of our students was challenged, which is exactly what needs to happen for the best kind of education to take place.

Alumni, past parents, and local professionals led the day and supported conversations about labor laws, FBI under-cover agent protocols, and other career oriented ethical dilemmas. One alumni participant shared:

We loved the Ethics Day exchange with the students. Most importantly, my wife and I felt like we really connected with a number of them.  Please encourage them to reach out to either of us for anything. We loved these kids and were so impressed with them!

Kimball Union is proud to offer opportunities like this for our students. Going beyond a typical “career day” or “networking event,” Kimball Union exposes students to real-world experiences, and outfits them with the skills required to forge meaningful and productive lives.
