A Family Legacy on Snow

Colter ’21 has skiing in his blood. Like many native New Englanders, he feels at home barreling downhill in fresh powder. While most students spent winter break catching up on sleep, Colter logged hours on the night shift crew at nearby Whaleback Mountain grooming trails and making snow to prepare for the upcoming ski season.

Colter, a day student, was destined to love snow. Growing up under the roof of Pierce’s Inn in Etna, New Hampshire, Colter and his siblings could access trails outside their doorstep. The Inn, run by his parents Cindy Pierce and Bruce Lingelbach, has been a popular destination for skiers visiting the Upper Valley since 1947.

In his Digital Video Production final documentary project, Colter shares how his family reclaimed a ski hill and a shared identity in his short film, Lord’s Hill: Lost and Found.
