Kimball Union Welcomes New Faculty to Campus
Seven new faculty members join Kimball Union Academy for the 2020-2021 academic year, bringing a wealth of experience and expertise to the English and world languages departments, student life, the health center, residential life, and athletics.
Kate Bobsein
Kate Bobsein joins the KUA faculty as the vocal music teacher. She grew up in Buffalo, New York and holds a music education degree from Ithaca College. She most recently worked as a middle and high school chorus teacher in Ovid, NY. She has years of experience teaching and performing piano and voice. Ms. Bobsein will be directing the Selects vocal ensemble and teaching piano lessons at KUA.
Tessa Cassidy
Tessa Cassidy joins the faculty as a Latin teacher. She grew up in Brunswick, Maine and graduated from Dickinson College with a bachelor’s degree in classics. Ms. Cassidy, who was a member of the Dickinson cross-country team, will coach the KUA cross-country team along with Sean McDonough. She has worked as a camp counselor for the last six years at a camp in Maine. She will be living in the rear Mikula apartment, where she will be supporting the residents of Mikula Hall. Ms. Cassidy will also support our Choices program.
Julian Dormady
Julian Dormady joins the faculty as a learning specialist in the Learning Center. Mr. Dormady has 10 years of experience working with students as a learning specialist at schools such as the Carroll School in Massachusetts and most recently Founders Classical Academy of Leander, Texas. Mr. Dormady is a graduate of Claremont McKenna College and received his master of education with a concentration in moderate disabilities 5-12 from Lesley University. He will be living in Bryant Hall.
Clark Macomber
Clark Macomber joins KUA as an intern in Student Life, supporting our academic program as a teaching assistant to teachers working at a distance. Mr. Macomber most recently worked as a field instructor at Second Nature Wilderness Family Therapy Center in Duchesne, Utah, and has also has worked as a trip leader on student expeditions for Apogee Adventures. He holds a bachelor of arts in economics from St. Lawrence University. Mr. Macomber will serve as KUA’s Varsity Alpine Ski Team coach, and will also serve as an assistant coach in both fall and spring. He will be living in Dexter Hall.
Tong Meltzer
Tong Meltzer joins KUA as director of wellness and counseling services. She previously worked as a clinician at Mountain Valley Treatment Center and at Dartmouth College in the Student Wellness Center and the Counseling Center. Ms. Meltzer has served as a healthy relationships and sexual health specialist as part of Dartmouth’s four-year mandatory sexual violence prevention program. She has facilitated student-led peer education training around healthy relationships and sexual health, and developed countless evidence-based, culture-changing programs. She also provided clinical individual counseling to undergraduate and graduate students representing diverse presenting concerns including but not limited to anxiety, depression, trauma, perfectionism, and OCD. Ms. Meltzer grew up in Dalian, China. She earned her BA in mass media communication at the University of Missouri Columbia and a master’s degree in social work with a focus in sexuality education and counseling services from Washington University in St. Louis.
Isaac Mensah-Yeboah
Isaac Mensah-Yeboah joins the KUA faculty as an intern. He will support the academic program in Choices, work as a teaching assistant for faculty working at distance, and as a teaching assistant and teaching fellow for the public speaking class. Mr. Mensah-Yeboah most recently worked as a teacher and counselor for the Two Rivers Supervisory Union summer camp and as an engagement fellow for the Basic Needs and Access and Security program at James Madison University, where he received a bachelor of science in public policy and administration and communication. He will serve as an assistant coach for the Girls Varsity Soccer Team and will also assist in coaching two additional seasons. Mr. Mensah-Yeboah will be living and doing dorm duty in Bryant Hall.
Liza Wolf
Liza Wolf joins KUA as an English teacher. She recently received her MAT for teaching English from Tufts University and earned her undergraduate degree in classics at Union College. She is a native of New Jersey and attended high school at Kent Place School. She spent time student-teaching in the Winchester School District working with both ninth- and tenth-grade students. Ms. Wolf has also served as a residential assistant for the Johns Hopkins Summer Center for Talented Youth. She has worked for many years as a swimming instructor and is an avid tennis player. Ms. Wolf’s inspiration for becoming a teacher comes from the teachers who had such an impact on her throughout her education. Ms. Wolf will be teaching various sections of Literature of the American Dream, and Global Literature this year. She will be living in Densmore Hall.
