Richard W. Waite

Topsfield - Mr. Richard W. Waite, 81, of Topsfield, beloved husband of Aileen (Gardner) Waite, passed away Thursday, July 11, 2019, at his home stoically and tirelessly battling illness.

Son of the late Albert and Eleanor (Chapin) Waite, he was raised and educated in Swampscott. First attending the Kimball Union Prep School, Richard continued his education graduating from Dartmouth College with a bachelor's degree in Geography.

An honorably discharged veteran, Mr. Waite proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army.

Mr. Waite worked for countless years at Digital Equipment Corporation, where he was in charge of personnel and supervised training. He was a dedicated employee, was well liked and known for his expertise and patience.

A longtime resident of the Town of Topsfield, Richard was an active member of the Vintage Sports Car Club of America and meticulously maintained and raced vintage cars for over 30 years. He was a model train enthusiast and belonged to the North Shore Model Railroad Club, of Wakefield; he loved photography and was an indiscriminate collector of many things.

He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, with a dry sense of humor that endeared him to many. He was the rock that held his family together. He enjoyed sharing his many activities with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by those who loved him and the many lives he touched along the way.
Surviving Richard in addition to his wife Aileen with whom he shared 41 years of marriage; is his daughter, Erica Clay; and his granddaughter, Rachel Clay; along with several nieces and nephews.

His funeral service will be held in Trinity Episcopal Church, River Road, Topsfield, on Wednesday, July 17, 2019, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, Topsfield.
