KUA Drops First Match Since Season Opener

KUA hosted Saint Paul’s this Friday for an evening match at the Muller tennis courts. The match got off to a quick start in singles. Tomas Mazura was matched up against his toughest opponent of the year and lost his first set 0-6. Tomas fought to push the second set to a tie break but was unable to further the match to a third set tie break. The final score was 0-6, 6-7 (0-7) in Saint Paul’s favor. The overall match could not have been much tighter as four of the remaining five singles matches all went to third set tie breaks, and close ones as well. Carlos #2 lost his match 4-6, 6-2 (9-11), Jon Schafer #3 lost 6-4, 3-6 (9-11), Kelvin Zhang #5 lost 6-3 4-6 (8-10), and Sean Donoghue #6 pulled off another specular win 5-7 6-4 (10-8). Ethan Crandlemire #4 cruised to a quick first set win, but his opponent picked up the in the second set, yet Ethan was able to pull out 6-1, 7-5 victory. Heading into doubles KUA needed to win all three matches, but was only able to take one. Ethan Crandlemire and Carlos Melgarejo finished off an undefeated season at the #2 doubles position with an 8-4 victory. KUA looks forward to playing in the Lakes Region tournament this Saturday at New Hampton.
