KUA Squeezes Out a Win Against Exeter

In what was KUA’s most impressive win of the season, the Wildcats squeezed out a 5-4 victory and handed Exeter their first loss of the season. The Wildcats got off to a slow start in singles. Everyone except Tomas Mazura lost the first set. However, the Wildcats did not give up. Both Carlos Melgarejo (6-7, 6-3, (7-5)) and Sean Donoghue (4-6, 7-5, (10-5)) came back from a set down to win in a third set tiebreak. Tomas Mazura also won his match in a third set tiebreak (6-4, 1-6 (10-7)) The match was tied 3-3 entering doubles. Carlos and Ethan continued their undefeated season and cruised to an 8-3 victory. After finding themselves down early, Sean Donoghue and Jakob Frowein fought back to 5-6 but were not able to pull of the comeback, losing their match 6-8. With the match tied 4-4 the teams looked to the first doubles position to decide the match. Tomas Mazura and Jon Schafer were able to fight back from a slow 0-3 start and found themselves up 7-5, forty-love. Exeter stayed consistent and was able to force KUA to deuce, but then sailed a backhand long and KUA won their biggest match of the season. The Wildcats look to continue their winning ways this Friday against Saint Paul’s for the Lakes Region Championship.
