The One Love Foundation Visits KUA

Whit Willocks, Girls Varsity Lacrosse, College Advising Faculty
Love is the most important thing in our lives, yet we are taught very little about it. A few years ago, the One Love Foundation was created in honor of Yeardley Love, a member of the UVA Women’s Lacrosse Team, who tragically lost her life at the hands of her boyfriend. Her death was completely preventable; one Love’s mission is to make sure what happened to Yeardley doesn’t happen to others. One Love educates young people about healthy and unhealthy relationships, empowering them to identify and avoid abuse and learn how to love better.

This fall, One Love came to speak at KUA and led the entire school through a presentation focused on introducing One Love to KUA and informing students of the resources that are available to them when navigating through relationships. Then, this spring, One Love returned to lead the entire school through their “Escalation Workshop.” The Escalation Workshop is a film-based program that opens people’s eyes to the warning signs of relationship abuse. The workshop consists of a film, Escalation, followed by guided discussions. Student leaders were nominated to attend an evening of training to become facilitators for those discussions.

KUA and the One Love Foundation will remain close in partnership and support. Last week, our boys and girls lacrosse programs dedicated both of their games to the One Love Foundation and the memory of Yeardley Love. It was a great day celebrating Yeardley’s life, spreading the word about One Love, and raising funds for the Foundation.
