Wildcats Play Well in Loss to Proctor

On a beautiful day that saw the Wildcats honor seniors Chloe-Rourke Nicholas, Hannah McGrath, Scout Beaupre, and Seana Perkins, KUA played a strong game but ultimately came up short against Proctor. After falling behind 4-0 in the first half of the first inning, KUA earned two runs back as Maddy Haynes walked, Beaupre doubled, McGrath walked, and Rourke-Nicholas hit a sacrifice fly to score Haynes. Beaupre later scored on a wild pitch. The KUA defense went to work after that, with outstanding plays by left fielder Audrey Donahue and a Perkins throw to Beaupre at second base to pick off a would-be Proctor base stealer. Donahue also had two hits at the plate while classmate Shannon Moran hit a triple and scored twice and Katherine Lawton doubled and added a run scored. Casey McCauley pitched the first six innings for KUA before Rourke-Nicholas came on to pitch the seventh, retiring three Proctor batters on just five pitches, which included making an excellent diving catch off the mound. The loss cost the Wildcats a birth in the top four playoffs for the Lakes Region title, but the team will be back in action soon, hosting the 5 vs. 6 Lakes Region game on Wednesday in Meriden.
