The Walk for Water

On Sunday, May 6, Hannah ’19 hosted the Walk for Water at Kimball Union to raise awareness about the global water crisis as a part of her Global Scholar Senior Capstone Project.

“In communities that do not have access to clean water, girls and women walk an average of 3.7 miles a day to collect water for their families,” says Hannah. She continues, “I’ve traveled to Tanzania and Peru with Rustic Pathways on projects focused on The Global Water Crisis. We built toilets and latrines in Tanzania and installed plumbing and drainage in Peru.”

During the Walk for Water, members of the community made laps around the quad while carrying 5-gallon buckets of water. “The event turned out well,” says Hannah. “50 people showed up and some even walked 60 laps around the quad. We raised over$100 to donate to the The Water Project, where I did an internship last summer.” The Water Projects works closely with local in-country teams in Sierra Leone, Kenya, and Uganda and partners with community members to develop sustainable clean water programs.

“This summer I am going back to intern with The Water Project and in the Fall I will attend Hobart & William Smith Colleges where their annual theme is Water.  I’m looking forward to staying involved,” remarks Hannah.
