Cam Beecy '15 Nominated as 2019 Hockey Humanitarian

Cam Beecy ’15, now a senior defenseman for the Norwich University Cadets hockey team in Northfield, VT has been nominated as one of five finalists for the prestigious 2019 Hockey Humanitarian Award. The award is presented annually by the Hockey Humanitarian Award Foundation to college hockey’s “finest citizen”. Cam’s nomination recognizes his inspiring work with a number of philanthropic efforts. Congratulations, Cam!

An ROTC cadet at Norwich who will commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force next year, Cam maintains a 3.82 GPA as a nursing student. Having lost a close friend to suicide, Cam organized an outdoor workout competition in Stowe to raise money for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Since his time at KUA, Cam has been a member of the national nonprofit Positive Tracks group’s Youth Ambassador Board; his efforts there have included serving as captain of the Positive Trackers, a team that competes in the Travis Roy Foundation Wiffle Ball Tournament in Vermont, raising money to support athletes with spinal cord injuries, as well as organizing soccer tournaments to help eradicate AIDS and foster understanding of the stigma of HIV. These efforts earned Cam a nomination as a finalist in Beyond Sport’s fundraising award “Courageous Use of Sport”.
