Strong Season Opener

The JV Girls Lacrosse team hosted the New Hampton Huskies in their season opener on Pope Field today. Though the team has not practiced on a full field yet, they were up for the challenge. The game was scoreless for the first 6 minutes of the game while sophomore Amelia Keith made 2 saves in goal. New Hampton found the back of the three times before the Wildcats managed to gain possession and keep it in their offensive end. Junior Alyssa Morris ran the offense confidently and the rest of the players followed her lead. Freshman Caroline Sheehan drove to the net with a tight cradle resulting in the Wildcats first goal after a pass from freshman Katie Ayers. Seven minutes later, Morris passed a perfect feed from the back of the net to Sheehan who quick-sticked it into the net. The half ended with a score of 5-2. In the second half, the Wildcats continued to fight. Freshman Julia Walton scored two goals, one on a free position. The Wildcats’ strong defense limited the Husky attack to only two goals ending the game 7-4. Keith finished the game with 7 saves, the Wildcats earned 2 draw controls and 5 ground balls during the game. Sheehan earned the first interception of the season. The team hosts St. Pauls on Saturday at 2:30.
