KUA Marks the Passing of Doug Grearson

Longtime Meriden resident Doug Grearson P’75, ’76, ’80, ’87 passed away on February 23, 2019, in Lebanon, New Hampshire. During the 1980s, Mr. Grearson was Chief of the Meriden Volunteer Fire Department and was instrumental in supporting the Kimball Union Fire Brigade during its creation.

The ever-popular Fire Brigade is a student organization that has inspired the values of volunteer service in generations of KUA students, including Board Chair Rob Snow ’85 and Darrell Beaupre ’86, the current faculty sponsor of the Fire Brigade. With support from the Board of Trustees through Headmaster Tom Mikula and KUA Fire Marshall Thaddeus Seymour, Doug was responsible for purchasing ladder trucks that could reach the top floors of KUA’s buildings, greatly increasing the likelihood of rescue for students with high rooms in DR, Bryant, and Densmore, or during the class day in Baxter Hall.
