Boys Varsity Hockey Three-peat as New England Champions

On the heels of their second consecutive Lakes Region Championship victory, Boys’ Varsity Hockey traveled to St. Anselm College to defend their two-time New England Championship in the NEPSAC Elite 8 Stuart/Corkery Tournament against #1 seed, Salisbury School on Sunday, March 3. Sullivan Arena was packed with Wildcat fans spanning generations as Kimball Union earned their fourth in history, third consecutive, New England Championship.

Paul ‘19 scored on a slapshot from the left wing with 56 seconds left in the game to break a 3-3 tie and lift the Kimball Union Wildcats to their third consecutive NEPSAC hockey championship. In a game that saw Salisbury hold two separate two-goal leads, the Wildcats battled to come back and took control of the game late in the second period. Salisbury capitalized on a lucky bounce to take a 1-0 lead after the first period and jumped out to a 2-0 lead midway through the second. However, KUA answered as Arlo ‘19 roofed a wrist shot on the rush to bring the Wildcats within one. Salisbury tallied again shortly after but a powerplay goal by Tomas ‘20 and a shorthanded goal by Zach ‘19 with 30 seconds left in the period, knotted the game heading into the third. KUA controlled the pace of the game for the final period and set the stage for Paul’s dramatic game-winning-goal. Veeti ‘20 was excellent in the KUA net, making 25 saves.

The wildcats finish this 2018-19 season with a 30-5-2 record. Home games are now available for review on Kimball Union’s Livestream archive and an album of photographs from the championship game are available on our Flickr page.
