KUA beats Cardigan in Lakes Region Tournament

KUA won in the opening round of the Lakes Region JV tournament against a strong Cardigan Mountain team – the same team that defeated the Wildcats in overtime in the finals of the 2018 tournament. Cam Tucker scored in the opening shift to put the Wildcats on the board, but the Cardigan Cougars responded, and the teams were tied at one after one period. Connor Chalmers scored on a blast from the blue line, and Cam scored his second of the day to put KUA up 3 – 1 after two, and Griffin Hatley scored a short-handed goal early in the third in what felt like the icing on the cake. However, Cardigan rejected that metaphor and scored two quick goals to bring the score within one. The final ten minutes saw ferocious play from end to end. Cardigan was trying to pull their goaltender for an extra skater, but KUA kept the puck locked in the Cardigan end until, with less than 30 seconds left, Cardigan threw the puck down and got a sixth skater on the ice. KUA held firm, and the game ended at 4 – 3. Tyler Wenning was in the net for KUA and made several spectacular saves, and a number of KUA skaters had strong games. This great team effort against a perennially powerful opponent created one more opportunity for KUA – the Lakes Region JV Final game is scheduled for a puck drop at 3:00 at Tilton.
