Stephen A. Douglas
Stephen Douglas, Carbondale, Colorado, 73 passed away January 9, 2019. Born May 9, 1945 Weymouth, MA, son of Brandon Thayer and Betsey Barney Douglas. His family moved to Brattleboro, Vermont in 1947, owned & operated a Ski Resort "Hogback" where Stephen tried out his first pair of skis age 2. He moved to Boulder, graduating CU with a degree in Business Administration, raced US-B Team ProTour Circuit, moving to Aspen in 1974, was skilled Carpenter spending years on backside of "Ajax" living the dream. A close friend stated Steve was the hardest working man he ever met. He was known to be jovial, big smile for all, fun to be around, always willing to lend a hand say his friends, neighbors and acquaintances.

Stephen became Ski Instructor at Aspen Snowmass Ski Co 1980, until the day he passed. Steve was an avid Harley rider, loved working his land in Missouri Heights and hanging with buddie Skylar. He was always working out, biking or taking a daily hike, loved road trips touring Colorado's historic sights, history, nature, National Geographic, had a wealth of knowledge to pass to others. Steve loved his buddies in "Ajax" locker room, bantering, laughing and joking with kindred spirits. His buddies admired Steve for his professional ski racing career, spoke of him as a jokester, friendly, kind with an easy sense of humor. Every morning Steve made same first tracks, many remarked "there's Steve's tracks". Stephen made his mark on Aspen Mountain and the RFV Community and will be greatly missed.
Stephen is pre-deceased by his Father and Mother; survived by Brother William Douglas; nieces Lindsey & Ashley Douglas; cousin Sally White; Goddaughters Tateh and Hopper Brinkley and best buddy yellow Lab, Rocky Mountain Skylar. A Memorial service to celebrate Stephens life is in planning stages and will be announced at later date. A Shrine will be created on Aspen Mountain in Memory of Stephen's incredible service of 42 years to Roaring Fork Valley and Worldwide Ski Community.
