Lucie '21 Wins the Gold

Dustin Meltzer '05
Congratulations to Lucie '21 on playing with the U18 French National Girls’ Hockey team in the International Ice Hockey Federation’s Division 1B World Championships in Dumfries, Scotland during the second week of January.

“I went through several training camps to earn a spot on this team,” says Lucie. “This is my second year on the team, and also the second year we have gone to the championships. Last year we finished in second place overall to Denmark and this year we came in first!”

Leading up to the championship tournament, “I traveled to Paris to meet the team on December 28,” says Lucie, “where we practiced and trained through the new year until January 3, when we flew to Edinburgh. The tournament began on the January 6, and the Championship Game was on the 12th.”

In the ranking for top scoring players in the tournament, Lucie earned second place on her team and 4th place overall. She hopes to join the team again next year and will head to training camps in October to compete for a spot on the 2019-2020 team, which, with the championship win, has been reclassified to the 1A Division. “The experience was nerve-racking in the beginning,” Lucie admits, “but once I won the medal, it was a dream come true.”

Thank you, Lucie, for sharing your story and stay tuned for more news from The Hilltop.
