Wildcats lose in overtime

In the 19th century, Horatio Alger wrote an extremely popular series of young adult books where the protagonist always triumphed as a result of hard work, moral behavior, and more than a hint of good luck. That series would have been significantly less successful if his young hero lost in overtime. Unfortunately, that is what happened when KUA faced off against the visiting Lions from Lower Canada College. LCC jumped out to a quick lead, but the Wildcats settled into their game and second-period goals by Cam Tucker, with an assist from Jeremy Sigl, and Griffin Hatley tied the game. LCC retook the lead early in the third, but Griffin scored his second of the night with about two minutes remaining, and the game went into overtime. The overtime format gave each team three skaters and a goalie. The Wildcats controlled the puck in the LCC zone for the first shift, but couldn’t score. The play moved to the KUA end where the Wildcats drew a hooking penalty, and the Lions put the puck over goalie Jack Isabell’s shoulder during their powerplay to win 4 – 3. A frustrating outcome, but the Wildcats played hard and came from behind twice to put real pressure on the visitors from Canada. (KUA’s international record is now 2 – 2.)
