Complete Team Effort Lifts KUA Over Brunswick

A dominant team effort, which resulted in a 29-7 shots-on-goal advantage, propelled the Kimball Union Wildcats to a 4-0 victory over Brunswick in the second game of the Nichols School Tournament in Buffalo. After a scoreless first period, junior Tomas Mazura set up fellow junior Sullivan Mack in the slot early in the second period and Mack beat the Brunswick goalie to the five-hole to open the scoring. Minutes later Mazura made a great play on a 2-on-1 to set up junior Zach Whitehead who buried the puck to give KUA a 2-0 lead after two. Mack also assisted on the play. In the third, senior Arlo Merritt scored on the rush off a feed from classmate Drew Bennett and Bennett rounded out the scoring late in the game when senior Kyle Penney set him up for a short-handed goal. Junior goalie Veeti Kohvakka cruised to the win but had to make a couple of big saves late to preserve the shutout.
