KUA Falls in Overtime

Despite jumping out to an early 2-0 first-period lead, the Kimball Union Wildcats could not hold on as Deerfield battled back to tie the game in the third period before getting a fortuitous bounce in overtime to claim victory. Things started well for KUA, as junior Paul Dore potted a rebound off a Tomas Mazura shot, with Brian Carrabes also earning an assist. Later in the first, Arlo Merritt made a nice play in the neutral zone to feed Drew Bennett who fed Zach Taylor driving the net. Taylor cashed in to make it 2-0 KUA. Deerfield scored once in the second and again in the third while KUA could not gain separation, thanks in large part to Deerfield’s goaltender. In overtime, a loose puck bounced off a KUA defender and then bounced into the net off a Deerfield forward to give the Big Green the win.
