C'est parti pour un bon départ

With three days of practice behind them, the KUA JV team started their season off against a strong Edouard-Monpetit squad from Montreal in front of a raucous crowd in Akerstrom Arena. Both teams played hard all night, and the Wildcats deserve real praise for being as focused and as organized as they were in their opening game. Cam Tucker scored in the first period with an assist from Sean Donoghue, and the team then created a myriad of good opportunities that the Edouard-Montpetit goalie stopped. The visitors pushed hard in the third period, and Kai Taylor made some big saves in the KUA net. With just over a minute remaining, the visitors pulled their goalie for an extra skater and Anthony Solt scored an empty net goal to put the game away. This fairly matter-of-fact description does not do justice to the drama and the exciting play on both sides of the ice, but this was a very encouraging first outing. Congratulations to the boys, and to Coach Sam Ftorek who got a win his first ever game behind the KUA bench, but the next test comes quickly as the team faces off against St. Pauls’ School less than 24 hours later.
