Wildcats Begin Season with Win

In the first game of the season, senior Zach Taylor scored two third-period goals to lift the Kimball Union Wildcats to a 5-3 win over Stanstead College in Quebec on Saturday. Late in the third, with the game tied at three, Taylor tipped home a Kyle Penney point shot and then added an empty-netter minutes later to ice the victory.

The Wildcats got off to a rough start, falling behind 1-0 before Penney cashed in on the powerplay to tie the game. However, Stanstead kept pressing and scored late in the first to take a 2-1 lead into the intermission. In the second, KUA came out strong and took a 3-2 lead on goals from juniors Paul Dore and Sullivan Mack. Stanstead then scored a powerplay goal to knot the game at three after two periods. Junior goalie Zach Paputsakis made 27 saves for the win in his first game as a Wildcat while junior Tomas Mazura added two assists.
