Some goals this time ...

It was a dark and stormy night …

Actually, it was a rainy and blustery afternoon, but things looked ominous when we took the field against White Mountain School whose players appeared significantly bigger and stronger than our guys. We actually started well with quick precision passes in front of the White Mountain goal, but they ultimately took first shot of the game – a hard blast that Max van Dijk grabbed. White Mountain scored first but was then called for a hand ball in their penalty box and Nuri Nesbec scored on the ensuing penalty kick to even things up. Several minutes later, White Mountain was called for a hard foul in the box and KUA was awarded their second penalty kick of the half. The keeper stopped the shot and White Mountain roared down the field and scored less than 30 seconds later to take the lead. Those two events back-to-back could easily have taken the Wildcats out of the game, but this team doesn’t give up. Ollie Cozzi scored a brilliant goal off a perfect pass from Will Haynes early in the second half, and the two teams battled for the rest of the game, but the defenses held. So yes, another tie, but the boys deserve real credit for playing hard against an opponent that was bigger and faster than we are used to seeing. We have two home games remaining to finish out the season – New Hampton on Wednesday and Vermont Academy on Saturday.
