Friday Night Lights - Wildcats Win!

The Wildcats hosted the Proctor Hornets for their last home game of the season. The team prepared balloons and signs to honor the three seniors on the team, captain Yiwen Xu, captain Sunny Sun and first year player Aleena Masaeng. Because of low numbers on the opponent team, the game was played 7v7 - an incredible feat for any team at any level! The Wildcats opened up the scoring with an incredible speed with a goal from freshman Kelly Benson, assisted by Hanna Wiczek. Wiczek and Benson quickly followed up with a similar breakaway down the field. The Wildcat forwards including Katie Ayers, Hattie Kahl, Ellie Copeland-Clarke and Xu created a impenetrable wall against the Hornets. Benson scored her 3rd and 4th goal as the players continued to move around the field by substituting often and adjusting to new formations and positions. Ayers and Copeland Clarke had several opportunities as well supported by Wiczek constanding feeding the ball into the circle. The Hornets put on some offensive pressure in the second half. Sun commanded the backfield along with Maseang, Nathaly Verde, Alexis Lombard and Tess Boden. Each of these players played an integral role in the Wildcat attack as well. As the sun went down and the air turned from chilly to cold, the Hornets slipped a shot by KUA goalie, Amelia Keith. Keith’s heat from warm ups had turned to ice as she did her best staying warm in the net throughout the game. Ayers finished out the scoring for the day with a goal late in the second half making the final score 5-1. The Wildcats have three more games on the road to round out the season. The team would like to thank all those who came out to cheer at the game!
