KUA JV Girls Soccer Plays Tough 0-2 Match Against Holderness

The JV Girls Soccer team faced off against the Bulls on Brewster Field on Holderness Day. KUA dominated play early in the match, but the Bulls gradually gained momentum.

Helena Heckmann played most of the match in midfield, creating plays with Molly Beaupre, Margot Frost, and Lexi Gray. Indigo Kopp was everywhere in the midfield, stymying the Holderness midfield while also working the ball forward.  Strikers Maddy Haynes, Lily Wennik and Caroline Sheehan worked hard on offense to capitalize on the KUA midfield’s passes, but the back of the net remained elusive despite a high work rate by KUA’s team. Sofia Garner joined the offense first as a midfielder then as a striker, weaving the ball through the Holderness defense to create numerous chances.

KUA’s defense was under continuous pressure throughout the second half. Winsome Neville played courageously through several on-field injuries during the game. Kate Rybokova did excellent work on defense, single-handedly stopping several break-aways. Sophomore Ellie Stedina subbed in on defense and broke up several strong attacks by Holderness. The stopper and sweeper combinations of Kate Mackey, Shannon Moran, and Hailey McNamara worked tirelessly to contain the Bull’s offense. Nikki Petrescu Boboc and Briana Angelli aided as the fullback wings.

Late in the second half, midfielder wing Catie Flynn had a great cross into the penalty box, which KUA’s offense narrowly missed putting into the net. The crossbar of the net defied the KUA offense on several occasions, preventing what would’ve been tieing goals.

MVP of the match goes to goalkeeper Jenna Santos, with at least 7 saves in net. Facing an aggressive Holderness offensive line, Santos kept the Bulls to just two goals. Please join us next Wednesday on the road against the Brewster Bobcats @4:00 pm.
