Wildcats vs. Hornets Under the Lights

The Wildcats travelled to Proctor Academy on Friday night for what would be a thrilling game on the turf under the lights! Both teams were evenly matched throughout the game. Sophomore Jenna Santos faced many shots in the first half. Making diving saves to keep the team in the game. Junior Kate Mackey was a brick wall on defense, sending the ball halfway down the field so her teammates could run onto it and get a few shots on net. The score remainde 0-0 for most of the half, but finally the Wildcats had a corner. Freshman Shannon Moran took the corner and placed it perfectly in the net! The team went wild. Both teams were fired up. Proctor's pressure increased as they earned corner after corner. The defense worked hard to clear the ball but after many attempted corners, Proctor was able to put one in the net. The first half ended soon after with a score of 1-1. The second half began with a similar start to the game -both teams working the ball back and forth. Ten minutes had passed when Junior Maddy Haynes crossed the ball to Freshman Helena Heckmann who one-timed it into a beautiful shot into the back of the net. The Wildcats' momentum was back! The whole team was hustling down the field, playing strong defense and putting pressure on Proctor's goalie. However, the Hornets did not give up. With about ten minutes left in the game, the Hornets had the ball in front of the net with lots of threatening shots blocked by the defense and Santos. Unfortunately, in the chaos there was a handball that resulted in a penalty kick. Proctor scored tying the game at 2-2. KUA did not give up. They played to the end of the game and had a few shots but were unable to get another goal. Santos ended with four saves. The Wildcats look forward to competing against New Hampton at 2:30pm on Saturday.
